INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A sheriff’s deputy died after being attacked in her Indianapolis home by a dog that also bit and wounded her 8-year-old son, authorities said Wednesday.

Tamieka White, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday night shortly after Indianapolis police officers responded to her home on the city’s east side, officials said. She had been a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office since 2007.

Her young son was also bitten in the dog attack, which was reported about 7:45 p.m., officials said. He is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Indianapolis police said the attacking dog charged at a responding officer, who fatally shot the animal.

And it was someone else's dog. The lawyers are probably lined up at their door.

Geez us people. Leash laws!!!!

What a horrible way to go, and that child will never recover from a dead mom.

Knew it would be a pitbull.

Because there is an issue with that breed and people need to understand that.
There aren’t bad dogs…….you know the rest.

My dog would have been described as an American "pitbull" on steroids by the uneducated. Yet his breed wasn't even from the same continent.

Beorboel.jpg

He was a Boerboel, or South African Mastiff. The smallest of the mastiff breed at only 135 pounds, but one of the more muscular. They were bred to protect farms and farmers in South Africa from lions, hyenas, and other predators. While not very tolerant of the cold, he made a very admirable protector in Alaska's wild. Whenever he perceived a threat he would insert himself between me and the perceived threat and stop, forcing me to stop. He very rarely ever barked, and unlike all my other dogs, never once harassed the wildlife. He was definitely the best guardian I have ever owned.

As mentioned in the article, it requires a DNA test in order to actually determine the breed, or breeds, of a dog. Even if the DNA does show American Pit Bull Terrier, it may not be the only breed in the dog's DNA.

A friend had one of those. He lived in a heavily populated suburb and the dog was kept inside way too much. Both he and his wife worked. The dog was impressive, but he developed leathery patches/lesions on his back. I believe he had to be put down early. He was a load!

EDIT: the dog was a Rhodesian Ridgeback, very similar, I think.

Same continent, but a much smaller dog. Rhodesian Ridgebacks fall into the medium-large category, weighing in between 70 and 90 pounds. They were also bred to hunt, not guard. My boerboel was 12.25 years old when a benign tumor ruptured his spleen. Mastiff breeds typically only live between 8 and 10 years. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are not much better with a life expectancy of only 11 years.

This one was maybe an aberration, he was well over 100lbs.

That isn't what the article said, and it demonstrates your irrational hatred.
Actually the article said it.

“All the dogs appeared to be ‘pit Bull’ type”

And I’m not getting into stupid word games that pit owners get into. I don’t care if it’s a “staffordshire terrier” that’s a pitbull, an “American bulldog” is a pit Bull” a mix with pitbull is a pit Bull.

Knew it would be a pitbull.
Well sir don’t you know it could be a staffordshire terrier or a bill dog? It’s the deed not the breed! You know that chihuahuas bite too right?

That’s exactly what people say every time a fatal pit Bull attack occurs

Look at how these beautiful dogs love their owners

There aren’t bad dogs…….you know the rest.
Some dogs do have more of a propensity for certain behaviors, and that's undeniable. Further, some dogs are just more capable of doing extreme damage if they do flip their shit. Like, no one is going to give a shit that a chihuahua goes after someone because they don't have the ability to do any real damage. Pit bulls do.

Your comment is just idiotic and divorced from reality. Pit bulls are responsible for over 70% of fatal dog attacks on humans.

No such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners.
There is such a thing as dogs with certain tendencies and capabilities. Your comment is wholly ignorant. over 70% of fatal dog attacks on humans is from pit bulls.

Yeah...doesn't matter that over 70% fatal dog attacks on humans are from pit bulls. Nothing to see here folks!

…and you felt the need to share that because……..
They are dangerous as hell, and people think they're cuddly pooches. That breed needs to be eliminated for good. Anyone who breeds them and/or fights them, needs a long prison sentence.
