Eight-term Indiana Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation Tuesday after admitting to an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office.
Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff."
"As I leave public office, my plans are focused on repairing my marriage, earning back the trust of my family and my community and renewing my walk with my Lord," his statement reads.
Was he one of those "family values" preachy Republicans? They seem to have a knack for the complete opposite.
Another right wing hypocrite.. who would have thought.
but at least this hypocrite is not gay...
If you're going to cheat on your wife and screw teenage girls - for god's sake be a Democrat where they pat you on the back and tell you to "go get 'em!"
i think that's exactly why he WON'T run for president. It once more depends on if they are a hypocrite or not. And certainly there are plenty of examples of Republicans doing these things and being excused by their fellows.
John Edwards, for instance, constantly talked about how important his family is to him, and paraded around his wife and spoke of family values. He was rightly criticized by Democrats for this and has no political future whatsoever.
Newt Gingrich, on the other hand, cheated on his wife and served her divorce papers while she was in a hospital bed recovering from serious surgery. He's one of the possible GOP Presidential candidates in 2012.

The one good thing that comes out of all of these hypocrites is that any time the GOP now tries to claim that they are the party of "Family Values"....they are laughed right out of the room.
Seriously, I think it's the hypocrisy that is most disturbing in cases like this. when they pretend to be holier than thou supporters of "family values" and are anything but that...
Seems so obvious, but apparently some haven't figured this out yet.And their own standards in this case - "don't cheat" - are the same as everyone else's, "family values" or not.

Please please PLEASE get dictionaries.
Hypocrisy is a double standard, NOT failing to live up to your own standards. And their own standards in this case - "don't cheat" - are the same as everyone else's, "family values" or not. And is anyone here actually anti-family? Because apparently, in order to cheat and not be a hypocrite, you have to hate families. This being according to people who don't know what the definition of "hypocrite" is.

Oh come now, there is a difference between a preacher saying "family values" and some guy who doesn't say a word about it.
It's a matter of degree, of course. Both of them are wrong for cheating, and both are hypocritical if they took oaths to be true but then cheated, but the degree of hypocrisy is not the same.
You shouldn't be pointing fingers at people, telling them how they should live, when you don't even abide by your own standards. THAT is the distinction.
This is for Democrats and Republicans both - Why is it that they always talk about walking with the Lord AFTER they get caught? Souder gets righteous. John Edwards got righteous. They ALL get righteous, and it is always after the fact. Is it about religion and getting right with God, or is it really about politics? They had better think twice. Once you are in Heaven, you don't run for office, so a little elbow rubbing with God, and a little name dropping of "God", just isn't going to work. LOL.

Why? And what is "family values"? It could mean all sorts of things. Here we're talking about cheating on one's spouse. So if "family values" means staying true to your spouse, then basically *everyone* is pro-family values... and whether they say it or not doesn't matter. If you don't say a word to defend your own beliefs, it doesn't make you any better in the same situation.
No, because again, hypocrisy is a double standard, not failing to live up to one's standards. If the guy says, "cheating was justified in MY case", then he is a hypocrite. If he admits he was in the wrong, then he's not a hypocrite. And as for "telling them how they should live", none of these so-called hypocrites are ever known for preaching against adultery, so that's not even relevant.
