He was not the Pope yet, of course, since it was 3 years ago, but here is what he had to say:

“While serving as Bishop of Chiclayo in Peru, Robert Prevost — recently appointed Pope Leo XIV — spoke out against Russia's continued war against Ukraine in a 2022 interview.

Speaking with Peruvian news outlet Semanario Expresión, Prevost condemned Russia's war against Ukraine, characterizing it as a "a true invasion, imperialist in nature, where Russia seeks to conquer territory for reasons of power."

President Volodymyr Zelensky recently congratulated the new pope on hisappointment.

"Ukraine deeply values the Holy See's consistent position in upholding international law, condemning the Russian Federation's military aggression against Ukraine, and protecting the rights of innocent civilians," he said.

Glad to have a Pope who is willing to be outspoken.

The Argentinian firecracker was pretty outspoken as well and had his heart in the right place.

I like that in people, speaking up for and doing what is right.

Bob's bio is interesting, with a few hooplas of course, which seems to be the norm with things Catholic. Of course I watched
so I am skeptical

and I am just baffled by this entire Pope thing.
But, as a human being, he seems to be ok.

The new Pope grew up in Dolton, Il.... a south Chicago suburb. The Catholic church/school he attended was Saint Mary of the Assumption Church. It has been closed and shuttered now for many decades.

Robert Francis Prevost graduated from St. Mary in 1969. Another notable St. Mary alum graduated in 1964. That was Marcheline "Marsha" Bertrand. After graduating with honors from St. Mary grade school, Marsha and her faimily moved to southern Californina where she attended Beverly Hills High School. She would earn a scholarship to the UCLA Fine Arts program where she studied acting. Marsha would marry actor Jon Voight and they had 2 children... (actor) James Haven and (actress) Angelina Jolie (who would marry Brad Pitt). Bertrand and Voight separated in 1976, publicly citing Voight's adultery. Bertrand filed for divorce in 1978 which was finalized in 1980. After a nearly eight-year battle with ovarian and breast cancer, Marsha died at age 56 on January 27, 2007. Actress Angelina Jolie opted for a double-mastectomy in 2013, having inherited a 'faulty' gene - BRCA1 - from her mother Marcheline.
