This Aug was the 75th anniversary of the dropping of the two A-bombs that ended WWII. Usually that latter day know it alls raise a fit over the use of the A-bombs. They of course as I say are the latter day know it alls that were not alive during WWII. They didnt have any skin in the game, or remember relatives that did. I did, since I had two brothers that were in WWII. One was already in Navy hospitals for almost a year when the bombs were dropped. The other one was on his destroyer on the way to the fleet off Japan. The bombs probably saved his life. If the bombs were not used, and we went ahead with the invasion, his destroyer may have been sunk. When we invaded Okinawa kamikazes sank 36 warships including many destroyers, like the one my brother was on. Further, those two bombs probably saved way more than one million lives, both japanese and Americans.

The nay sayers lament all the deaths the two bombs caused. BUT----------because their education is lacking, they dont know the true facts of the war against Japan. The big thing they dont know wont admit is the fact that during the fire bombing of Tokyo on the night of Mar 9-10 1945 more people were killed than either of the A-bombings. SIXTEEN square miles of Tokyo was burned out. Far more destruction and deaths occurred. Way over 100,000 died. Way more than either of the A-bombings.

Just responding to the thread topic, there should be a huge fuss to get rid of nuclear weapons in the world. But hey, doesn't seem urgent. Remember the warnings about the threat of a virus that didn't seem urgent?

If nothing else, it taught the world that using these weapons were truky terrifying things that we never used again.

And yes they did teach us that anyone that used them again would be destroyed. That is why they havent been used since.
