I'm proud to be an American

All true, I am a Rush fan, but not to the point that I drop everything to catch him, Rush has been blistering the Republican party for all the talk of moderating internally.

People seem to think that Conservatism is having great problems in the US. And just to give my opinion this may have something to do with the fact that so many American "Conservatives" seem to listen to the likes of Rush or Hannity regularly but have never read Burke or Jefferson or Oakeshott or many of the important Conservative or classical liberal thinkers.

Maybe I engage with an usual grup but the British Conservatives I generally know know their Burke and Carlyle et al which is something you rarely experiencw with Americans.

Yeah, from what I've heard on those occasions that I've listened to him, Rush is at least pretty consistent about these types of things. I'm not a Rush fan, as anyone who has entered into a discussion about him with me knows, but on many issues I agree with what he says, and at least he is consistent. And he isn't a GOP appologist.

Hmmm this topic is quite complicated. I'm not aware of Rush's personal views but many people are quite to proclaim they are against corporate welfare and often they are against the most direct and blatant examples but when you go into detail many of these people are still for quite a lot that aids corporations against other types of businesses and even society at large. Personally I'd say if your not against corporate personhood and privileges then it is hard to say you are completely against corporate welfare. What else is this basic grant of privileges by state fiat?

He does not support coporate socialism/welfare.

Neither do the conservatives who abuse it, until they are actually in a position of power to use it.

If they are rational, they will use it, the argument goes like this:

1. Money will be used by the government for X no matter what.
2. If that money is given to everyone equally, it will not help my party, which has the best interest of the nation at heart.
3. As a result, I may need to choose between the money going SOMEWHERE, and thus it should go in part to big business because they also share our values and fund our party, so the means justify the ends. And business drives our economy, etc.

Replace conservative/repub with democrat, and big business to lower/income, maybe workers, and it holds the same.

Although I think there is a super-rational way to approach the problem that results in a better overall system, but those individuals are currently always in the minority.

If we want to see a seed of that rational governance 101:
A wise ruler ought never to keep faith when by doing so it would be against his interests. - Machiavelli

DO NOT practice what you preach.

Rush is nothing but another overpaid entertainer and has no more relevance than Paris Hilton. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone expects wisdom from some idiot sitting in a broadcasting studio running his mouth . He has no experience or education in the field of political science but people actually take him seriously. He must laugh himself silly....all the way to the bank.

It does not take an education or career in politics to make an informed opinion about what is going on in the political arena. This is what he does.

He is also fairly smart, and has been analyzing politics for years. So his opinion is respected by many.

In the end he is still just an entertainer but comparing him to a useless waist of flesh like Paris Hilton? That is dishonest at best.

At least Paris doesn't cause the harm to this country that is caused by Rush venting his destructive comments to those who would rather read bumper stickers than think.

You really don't know anything. It's a shame.

I know better than to let a convicted drug addict do my thinking for me.
Who's a convicted drug addict? Are you making up bull**** again?

Hey IT,

Given that your pride for this nation is based on Obama. Given his lies and failures so far, are you still proud?

Were you not proud before ... i sure was. I am no less proud .. disapointed yes.

With each step back, we learn something .... mistakes happen the key is to not let it happen again.

You mean like the obstacles of the media swooning for him, or the odds of the media selecting him as the second coming?

Or was it the odds of beating a flacid McCain campaign?

JEEESH he is the next president, NOT A KING....

Says who?

I for one pledge my allegiance to lord barry. America has been going wrong what we need is a king. Freedom is over rated, we need somone to tell us what to do and when to do it .. its much more efficient.

Always been proud and thankful I'm an American! Gave 22 years of my life in her service.
God bless America!
Purrs,
Pookie

Well, thank you for your service. What branch?

The patriotism isn't newly found.

For what it's worth, IT...I recognized it a long time ago and I recognize it here. The fact is you have made a very good case, and it's not surprising that your patriotism would be called into question at this point.

uhm that post is like a month old. we were giving each other a hard time that day IIRC. I do not doubt IT's patriotism... I just have never seen it flourish so keenly. ;)

Fair enough. However, given the entirety of this thread, it certainly didn't seem like it was just "giving each other a hard time." Thank you for clarifying the situation though.
