See: Illinois Governor Signs Law Permitting DACA Illegal Immigrants to Become Police Officers

"On Friday, Mr. Pritzker signed HB 3751 into law. The bill, which goes into effect immediately, allows illegal immigrants who are residing in the country through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to apply to become police officers and sheriff’s deputies."

Absolutely amazing. Now the Democrat Leadership is giving the OK for illegal aliens to be cops and arrest U.S. citizens.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want elderly American citizens, who paid into Medicare all their lives, to surrender and share their Medicare Trust fund with millions of foreign nationals who have invaded America’s borders. LINK

If someone was taken the United States by their parents at a very young age, educated in American schools, got a degree in Criminal Justice from an American University, then how do they pose a danger to others if they work as a police officer?

who are residing in the country through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program

If they're here because of a government program, they're not illegal. Oy

Foreign nationals arresting United States citizens?

Interesting idea... literally a law allowing someone here illegally, regardless of reason, to go out and arrest other people for doing things that are illegal.

TheOnion... anyone?

Oh geez, they aren't illegal aliens during deferment. I think you're being misinformed. Here's some help:

"
Q1: What is deferred action?
A1: Deferred action is a discretionary determination to defer removal of an individual as an act of prosecutorial discretion. For purposes of future inadmissibility based on prior periods of unlawful presence in the United States, an individual is not considered to be unlawfully present during the period when deferred action is in effect. An individual who has received deferred action is authorized by DHS to be in the United States for the duration of the deferred action period. Deferred action recipients are also considered to be lawfully present as described in 8 C.F.R. sec. 1.3(a)(4)(vi) for purposes of eligibility for certain public benefits (such as certain Social Security benefits) during the period of deferred action. However, deferred action does not confer lawful immigration status upon an individual, nor does it excuse any previous or subsequent periods of unlawful presence they may have.

Under 8 CFR 274a.12(c)(33), an individual who has been granted deferred action under 8 CFR 236.21 through 236.23, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, may receive employment authorization for the period of deferred action, provided they can demonstrate “an economic necessity for employment.”

Under 8 CFR 236.23(d), USCIS may terminate a grant of DACA at any time, at the agency’s discretion. Please see Q28 for more information."

Wouldn't you prefer they were police than handcuffed by police? I like law-abiding folks, no matter their immigration status--such as those here legally waiting for their turn to become citizens, asylum seekers going through the process, etc.

Last September, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a similar bill that drops the requirements for law enforcement officers to be citizens or lawful permanent residents in the United States, instead allowing those with work authorization such as DACA participants to become police officers.

Miraculously, the republic still stands.

People have long joked that as California goes, so goes the nation.

It looks as if Illinois is seeking that honor.

*****

Here in California, for example, jaywalking is now legal if the jaywalker THINKS it is safe.
So in Illinois, non-citizens can now be cops who can arrest citizens.

Why not? Non-citizens already can vote in many local elections.

*****

This is 2023. The nation is a-changing. There ain't nothing that can be done.

Just wait for the changes that will be announced as soon as the Dems win the Executive and the Legislative branches in November, 2024!!!

I need to make a hot key for that sentence.

Foreign nationals arresting United States citizens?
We are not talking about people that chose to come here as adults. We are talking about people that were brought here as young children, that grew up here and were educated here, and that would be citizens were it not for irrational xenophobia on in the cultural right.

It’s absolutely amazing someone doesn’t get the concept of DACA.

DACA has helped undocumented young people build careers and families in the United States.
As DACA reaches its 11th anniversary, the policy is under immediate threat in the courts.

It is long past time to provide certainty to recipients and their families with a pathway to citizenship.

JUNE 12TH, 2023

Eleven years after the Obama Administration created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, DACA recipients have grown in many ways: youth who started as mostly high school and college students are now building careers and establishing families.

When President Obama announced the DACA policy in 2012, he described prospective DACA recipients as “young people who study in our schools, play in our neighborhoods, are friends with our kids, and pledge allegiance to our flag.” For years, elected officials and media outlets highlighted DACA recipients’ youth and the fact that they’d been educated alongside their U.S. citizen peers. Today, DACA recipients are no longer children; the protections afforded by the policy have helped them to build their lives in the U.S., graduate from school, grow their careers, and establish their own families. But even while DACA recipients have grown and changed, the DACA policy has not kept up, and it has been less effective over time because of court challenges resulting in closures of the policy for new applicants. Today, hundreds of thousands of these young people still live day to day facing the overwhelming uncertainty around their future in a country they have called home for decades.

When the DACA policy launched, DACA recipients were generally younger people who were in high school, or who were just beginning their college education or their careers. According to FWD.us estimates, the average age of DACA recipients in 2012 was 21 years.1 At that time, nearly half (45%) of approved applicants were enrolled in high school or college, while a slight majority (60%) participated in the labor force. For this first group, only slightly more than two-thirds (77%) had graduated from high school, and roughly a third (35%) had attained some college education. As many were in school or just beginning careers, DACA recipients earned a median income of only $4,000 per year.

Eleven years later, DACA’s beneficiaries have built families and careers in the U.S.

According to the bill's actual language it's for people who are legally authorized to work here or whom immigration action has been deferred by the federal government under DACA process. So in other words, people who can work here legally. Now can you explain how this bill makes it okay for illegal aliens to be police officers?

Sorry. NTD is as biased as MSN or Fox. The story is pretty dumb either way.

In the rest of the normal world outside of cult fantasyland, DACA immigrants are not illegal.

No he cannot. These white wing "articles" aren't meant to be read and are NOT read by their target audience.

Only the headlines are.

They're not here illegaly.

I need to make a hot key for that sentence.

It was more a poorly phrased joke, but to make a point that lines up to what others are saying.

Congress is at fault here, and that can be headlined by DACA was not a Congress passed law but a policy initiated by Obama. As such as been both a political mess and legal issue, courts involved more recently over Trump and Texas both taking aim. This is all fact.

Moreover, DACA does not itself provide a pathway to citizenship nor directly to legal permanent resident status. At this point I would argue there is no legal pathway at the moment, or even plausible strategy on an individual level, for anyone in DACA to earn citizenship via the program.

Our issue is the more we use DACA thinking for other political wants we have every indication this political fight with legal shenanigans will continue. You saying "they're not here illegally" (which I happen to agree with by what we have in front of us) is a political distinction backed by basically a Presidential order turning into DHS policy.

Congress is now split, 2024 is not certain, and the courts are stacked very right.

Get all upset with us with shit like "someone doesn't get the concept of DACA," as I'd turn that around given where we really are.

I'd consider Illinois doing something politically motivated over substantial for law enforcement.

DACA does not bestow citizenship.

Only because Congress is sitting on their asses and not doing anything.

Even SCOTUS threw it back at them
