if you say Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you ...

I'm not Catholic but I suspect they would tell you prayers to Mary are akin to asking someone to pray for you. She's an intercessory agent, albeit in Catholicism (and Orthodoxy) an exceptionally powerful one.

Are you then just praying ... or already worshiping Mary?

What do you think?
Always a good reason to post a classic 80's song:

I remember they would make us say the rosary despite...

5; And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6; But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7; But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8; Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Matthew 6:5-8 KJV

I think you can pray to God or Mary or a can of bean soup, and it will have the exact same effect.
... except that the can of bean soup will eventually answer your prayer, if you're praying for sustenance, whereas the others will not.

The only god that actually answers you is Google.

Mary is big in Roman Catholicism. Take Mary out of Roman Catholicism, you strip a Roman Catholic of a huge chunk of his daily prayers. I can hardly imagine any Catholic prayer sessions where Mary is absent

Hail Mary is a ritual. As such it has no magical or divine power. It serves as a form of calming meditation for those who have faith. It helps strengthen the relationship between God and the believer.

In Catholic tradition, one cannot simply go to God with their problems or concerns because first, God is very busy and second, the person with the problem is not worthy to approach God directly, so they need an intermediary to intervene on their behalf. That's where priests, Mary and the other saints come in.

One can talk to a priest, or pray to a saint, even pay penance by reciting ritualistic prayers. All are designed to keep the faithful focused and docile.

The opium of the masses.

Some are designed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the final moments of a football game.

For me it's praying. When one says the rosary, the Hail Mary prayer is included, so that helps me answer your question.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Christianity survives by ignoring the teachings of Christ.

For me, it doesn't change what I wrote when I answered the O/P's question.

The only thing we know for sure about Mary is that she had a little lamb.

I believe that is the one prescribed prayer in Catholicism that is actually biblical.

Back when the Catholic Church was really building up speed and the masses were largely illiterate (because no one had yet invented the printing press) the idea of intermediaries became the norm. One had to ask a priest what God wanted. The priest was free to manipulate the faithful in anyway they wanted. And they did, even getting to point where those who had the means could actually pay cash for their sins (in advance!) absolution through paying for indulgences.

Then, a do-gooder named Martin Luther came along and blew the whistle on the corruption and exploitation of the faithful masses. Once people began reading the Bible for themselves (thanks to Johann Gutenberg, inventor of moveable type printing), they realized how corrupt the Church had become. They started their own churches, known as the reformation.

Ritual prayers and recitations are still a large part of many of those reformation churches.
