If Iowa passes a voucher bill, this guy says he’ll open up a Satanic school

A few blocks down the road I used to live on was the Iqra school, a Muslim parochial school. They'd purely love for their people to get government vouchers. I wonder how the rightist conservatives will explain to their taxpayer's about that.

i would have no issue with it

We have a lot of Muslim's in this country, and i have zero issue with schools teaching that religion

Or Buddhism, Zaoism, or any other major established religion you care to name

Christianity is not the only religion in the world

And the principal thing is that we need to educate our youth, and the public systems for the most part are failing today

Yeah the whole point of vouchers is to get around the first amendment and get funding to religious schools. They think they are clever….
No. The whole point of vouchers is to create alternatives to state education. Its called choice. Something you libs pretend to support.

The alternatives are not always a good thing.
For profit education has been an abysmal failure in central Ohio, fraught with failure, fraud, and lawsuits.
It seems that Catholic education is generally the best alternative.

I am fine with vouchers so long as they are only available to kids in failing school districts.

The problem with vouchers is they are often used by middle class families in good school districts so that taxpayers can fund their kids creationists education.

The top performing public schools often outperform good private schools. I don’t have any problem with vouchers for kids in failing school districts. They can be a godsend for parents and kids in that case. However, if you are in a good school district and want your kids to go to a private school just the same, then it should be on your own dime, not the taxpayers.

He can threaten that. But I doubt he has the money to go through with it.

Are you not familiar with the Satanic Temple? This is exactly the sort of thing they do. They already have an after-school program as well as a recovery program, this seems like a natural next step for them.

Besides, the whole point here is that taxpayers are going to be footing the bill.

only if they get parents to sign their kids up for the classes

are you going to send your kids?

no one i know would.....

so stop fretting over bullshit like this

there are always going to be the fringe lunatics....let em be.....

Seriously? Do you actually know anything about Christian schools? There are no religious teachings. It's the same as public schools minus the trouble makers and the special needs kids. Oh, and parents pay for their kids education so they care about the results and are far more involved.

The really interesting part is if anyone would actually enroll………
Also interesting if the school could be accredited and attract qualified teachers.

The Baptist K-8 near me most certainly did include religious teachings. Maybe it depends on the school.

The Obama's sent their daughters to private schools. The Bidens sent their sons to private schools. I am not faulting them. Sending your kids to public schools in DC or Wilmington would be child abuse. 7k would be like getting a 20% discount there though.

Poor Amy Carter.......

Total aside: sending 2 kids to a 35k per year private school on a senate salary and buying several multimillion dollar houses, pretty lucrative side gig?

That‘s pure bullshit.
Private religious schools have religion classes - that’s why they’re called religious schools.
****ing unbelievable.

Top performing private schools are the exception, not the norm.

Iowa isn’t alone in sabotaging public schools, such as Tennessee. They’ve unwittingly pissed off the dormant independents who will now rally to take back their state from the freedumb circus.
The new Nevada governor is doing the same......sadly, he doesn't have to sabotage much.

Competition makes even good schools better. Sometimes a good school has a poor instructor for a particular grade or subject. (or a poor match for a particular student) Having a choice short of moving is not a bad thing and might force a reckoning for a poor teacher.

I sent my son to a Jesuit High school his freshman and sophomore years thinking he need a stricter learning environment. It may have been less so.
Boot Camp did the trick 2 years later. Lol

Sisolak was hurt by his Covid measures. Governors have to make real decisions. Nevada trended red in 2022. The three CDs D’s won were by only 10, 11, and 13k. With Amodei winning by 68k, R’s won the total state CD vote by 34k.

Sisolak was only able to flip 17 of that 34k, losing by 17k. CCM was able to flip 42k of the CD vote to win by only 8k. D’s are certainly in danger of losing Rosen’s senate seat in 2024 as well as the potus vote and its 6 electoral votes.

I’m an election geek and retired Chem/Physics HS instructor and Air Force brat baby boomer.

That’s fine, do it one your dime. There is a finite amount of money available for school vouchers, that money should be spent on kids in failing schools.

Top performing private schools are the exception, not the norm.
Top performing anything by definition is the exception, not the norm.
I went to Catholic school for a while when I was a kid. If you want to send your kid to a private school do it on your own dime. There is a finite amount of taxpayer money available for vouchers and it ought to go to kids in failing schools.
