Take a minute to watch a video of the Kirk shooting if you can. Then imagine that he was an elementary school student who took the bullet or maybe another child that was sitting nearby.
It is pretty telling of a nation that dead school children mean so little, while memoralizing a political activist means so much.
 
How true. If it was a single 2nd grader, a good chance we would never have heard about it to start with. We have roughly 19,000 homicide deaths per year in America by guns.

There was a school shooting with 3 critically injured the same day that Kirk was murdered.

There was a shooting a week before that with an 8 year old and a 10 year old killed.

There was a shooting at the Naval Academy since Kirk was killed.

I must have missed where AF2 was flown out to those locations. Where the POTUS addressed the nation about them, where the POTUS lowered flags.

And shall we count the threads here in DP regarding them vs. Kirk?

Shall we see what Kirk commented in his past about school shootings and gun violence? Perhaps even some of the last words he uttered?

Not sure I agree, I get the sentiment, but there is a different reason for a very sad usability of those two scenarios.

The biggest difference between how Kirk was assassinated and some kid in a school is assassinated is how the events can be used to cause more division between us. The reason I say that is even these days in the event of a school shooting the new natural reaction is to find out the ideology of the shooter. The why is answered in political contexts, and from politicians to the media they all line up to take their turn and spin it for the political point.

Memorializing Kirk is entirely about the political aspects.

The shooter was a former student.
There were other people killed on the day MLK died. No equivocation in the importance of victims.
 

It has always been the case that more media attention results when ‘famous’ people die (regardless of the cause) than when ‘regular’ people die.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. When I said go on, I meant go on with everything you knew about the tragedy. So go on. Keep going with what you know, because it's next to nothing compared to Kirk's shooting.
 
Circumstances matter.
For a 2 year old shot at a political rally it would be national news but yeah not nearly so big.

if they're shot in the "hood" we might not even hear about it.
 
The left doesn't understand the gravity of this political assassination or they are just trying to dismiss it as being nothing.

Shooter took a revolver to school. Shot two other students and then committed suicide.

No there wasn’t. There was a report of a shooter bit it was actually a negligent discharge in the dorms.
