SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan (Reuters) -- Osama bin Laden, if he's alive, celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday, and his friends in the Taliban prayed for his long life.

The al Qaeda leader's long silence has fueled speculation that the world's most-wanted fugitive may have died, though many in the international intelligence community reckon Islamist militant Web sites would circulate word of his death

Is that a new term for "co-conspritor"?


I'm having a difficult time viewing mass murderering psychopaths as having relationships with others that couold be considered genuine friendship.
 
Should we send him a card? :| I mean it's not like we're spending that much time on him lately anyway...
 
Bin Laden is mostly just a figurehead. I hope he's dead, but whether he is dead or alive is mostly irrelevant. Terrorism is a hydra, not a snake.

The willingness to kill others does not preclude friendship. Plenty of American's were genocidal killers towards the natives, but that didn't mean that they were not kind to family and friends.

Which genocide would that be? I mean if we perpetrated a genocide then why are native American populations higher than before the foundation of the United States? I mean we had what 200 odd years to finish the job, the Nazi's would have had it done in 1/20th of that time, surely if we intended to annihalate the indiginious peoples we could have.
 

It was more of a invade and conquer rather then genocide. We didn't exactly pursue to annhilate the Native American population, just those that stood up against America expanding it's border into other peoples land.

Of course there are more Native American population today then 200 years ago. If there wasn't they would definitely have a reproduction problem. There were roughly 5 million American citizens in 1800. There are now 300 million.
 


I'm just saying that genocide is defined as eliminating an entire group of people, in that context what happened to the indiginous peoples of the U.S. allthough lamentable was not genocide and labeling it as such cheapens the word.

Huh? How do you reconcile then the Nazi genocide? There are millions and millions of Jews alive today. Using you're incorrect "logic" that would put you and the President of Iran on the same page...the page that believes that there wasn't any genocide of Jews during WWII....

It is ridiculous and 100% wrong to suggest that there was not a genocide of Native Americans in the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
 

Umm, the Nazi's were stopped in their pursuit to eliminate the Jews, the United States was never conquered thus if we had been attempting to eliminate the Native Americans we would have done so. If it was a genocide their would be no more Native Americans left alive today, call it what you want but genocide it was not. Oh and the vast majority of indiginious peoples died of disease not by intent one could hardly compare putting people in ovens with coughing on them, labeling it genocide cheapens the word and lessens its meaning.

Again like the Nazi's the Hutu were stopped when the Tutsi lead Rawanda Patriotic Front overthrew the Hutu government. The U.S. were never stopped by anyone had we wished to eliminate the Native Americans we would have done so.

I don't a genocide is determined by whether a faction/country is "stopped" or not...I think it's determined by whether or not they whipped out a group of people...We whipped out a few N.A. tribes...that is genocide anyway you cut it...

It's defined by the intent to eliminate an entire group of people, had we intended to do so we would have, who would have stopped us?

So now the right is trying to spin blame for the genocide of the native american indian.. nice... you and anyone else attempting to deny this genocide should be ashamed. Its no better than neo nazies refusing to belive that the gas chambers existed.

When you have no argument result to appeals to emotion. The fact of the matter is that if it was a genocide then there would not be a single Native American left alive, but that is far from the case there are more Native Americans alive today than at the time of the formation of the United States, some genocide that. If we did engage in a genocide against the Native Americans we weren't very good at it because we left a whole **** load of them alive. Why if we engaged in genocide did we not finish the job? I mean there was nobody around to stop us as with the Germans and their final solution. So given the facts there are two conclusions that can be drawn either we were very bad at committing genocide or no genocide took place.

Not a genocide. Harsh, horrible, brutal, sickening, shameful treatment yes, but not genocide. The US wasn't trying to wipe out Native Americans, we just wanted their land.

But back on topic, the thing I hate most about this administration is that they haven't captured or killed this piece of **** yet, and they probably won't. It's sickening.
