"Micron, a company in Idaho that makes memory chips, has been locked in bitter trade secrets dispute with a state-backed Chinese rival called Fujian Jinhua.

Last week, the Trump administration targeted Fujian Jinhua in a major escalation of its push against alleged economic espionage. On Thursday, the Justice Department charged Fujian Jinhua, along with a Taiwanese company and three Taiwanese individuals, with conspiracy to steal trade secrets from Micron. The charges move the government's attack on Chinese intellectual property theft beyond tariffs and tough talk.

Micron's claims of economic espionage are given heft by the US government's lawsuit. But filing charges against the Chinese firm also serves a political purpose for the Trump administration.

The Commerce Department said Fujian Jinhua threatened the supply chain for essential military components."

To be honest, I really do not trust China when it comes to electronics especially with the recent news that they have put a tiny chip to infiltrate US companies. Just imagine how much tech and innovative ideas were stolen, and of course, personal data compromised because of China.

China is an IP thief. they should be labeled as such.
in order to get anything manufactured in china you must turn over your patents and other IP to them.

Then sure enough a year or so down the road some chinese company is making almost the exact same product that you do only
it is just enough different to escape any kind of lawsuit.

frankly their unethical business practices are not worth the cost of them making your product.

Which Taiwan company?

I know I would never buy a smart phone or any product made by Huawei. I just have no confidence that they are not compromised.

Which Taiwan company?

The name of the Taiwan company is in the article.

Micron sued Fujian Jinhua and Taiwanese semiconductor company UMC in California federal court in December 2017. Micron claimed that as early as 2015, UMC and Jinhua devised a plan to get former employees of Micron's Taiwanese affiliate to steal Micron's trade secrets and deliver them to UMC, which would then pass them to Jinhua.

Is UMC a subsidiary or the parent?.........and I don’t read cnn. If you care to explain what’s going on, great.

Sorry. I'm not here to hand-feed you the news. If you don't want to read an article...no matter who is presenting it...that's your choice. If you want to discuss a topic, then I suggest you do your own homework.

If I were told the map of Braddox’s gold was posted on cnn, I still wouldn’t read it.

Your loss. I wanted to hear what you had to say. Now I don’t.

China has advanced rapidly to challenge our dominance in many industries by avoiding the pesky R&D costs and delays that American innovators face.

As Confucius says "Why spend money inventing things when you can steal them?"

However these indictments serve no purpose except for publicity. What needs to happen is every item we import from them included a retroactive license fee rebated to the original owners.

BTW welcome to DP. I'm honored to give you your first like! I hope to give you more in the future.

It's common courtesy to read the article. I don't like CNN either. Their web site is video heavy, and I don't trust them one iota, but I'm not too proud to read their articles. We on the right fight this battle daily. The left isn't interest in the other side of the story. No wonder they are so FUBAR.

I don’t care about the reds. I was concerned about the free Chinese ( if you could call them that ) and what they think of computer chip copyright laws.

Ballreich's are better than Lays.

SIMO is someone I’d need to see if they tried to compensate the Formosans before I would think about purchasing their common shares.
