Again, THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.
If they don't know what the problem is they should not have him in jail.
You have no basis upon which to make that claim. The guy has done nothing wrong and is being illegally detained in jail.
I was obviously referring to the people commenting.
You have no basis upon which to make that claim.
None of us has any idea what the problem actually is, so dismissing it as a "paperwork error" is not justified. The guy has been here 10 years and is in jail over a paperwork error.
There are plenty of people across the country who are in jail for reasons unknown to me and for which I have no evidence to support. Why aren't you bitching about them, too?Do you have any evidence that says he should be in jail?

Not one of us has the first clue what "paperwork error" means. You keep ignoring this. The info we have from the family of the guy said it was about a paperwork error so unless you think they're liars then that's the info we have.
"You dont know the reason" =/= "there is no reason."I would be bitching about every person in jail for no reason
Looks like making up bullshit is how you've decided to spend your Sunday.I don't want anyone to spent a moment in jail if they should not be there but it seems like you have no problem with that.

This is why the forum exists, is it not?And it seems like you've decided that replying to me is how you want to spend yours.
I haven't "sided" with anyone. The US has seen many, many totally bonkers reasons to put foreigners in prison under Trump and this is just another of those but you seem to side with ICE here, I wonder why?
You still refuse to acknowledge that you don't have any ****ing clue what the problem really is.Personally I don't side with people being in jail for a month without his family not even knowing why other than a paperwork issue.
When you're in a hole, stop digging. Smart. That's my last word on this.
But it is quite fascist.I have heard immigration attorneys on several podcasts discuss the issue, and they all agreed that arresting and detaining him was not necessary.
ICE is not behaving as it used to. What is now commonplance used to be unheard of.
This story: https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-ice-traps-people-outside-194823718.html
Immigration attorney Issac Ortega told the Arizona Mirror that several masked agents, who refused to identify themselves as officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, arrested his client after his first immigration hearing.
Masked "officers" refusing to identify themselves? Removing people to distant locations? Not charging them but just holding them?
This sort of thing never used to happen in the United States and it's unconscionable and unAmerican.
AND it took the government 10 years to notice. Maybe call it even? Let the guy file it now? Does 10 years as a responsible resident count for nothing? Does it make any sense to haul him away from his family? For a movement that claims to hate government bureaucracy, MAGA sure prefers paper-pushing over common sense and humanity on certain issues.Yes, it’s all just a “paperwork miscommunication.” He didn’t file the required Form I-751 by his deadline in 2015 and made no effort to file it at all in the 10 years since. He did this to himself.
I’m surprised you didnt hear “No one is above the law…” echoing in your ears as you typed that.AND it took the government 10 years to notice. Maybe call it even? Let the guy file it now? No idea what "paperwork error" means but what it doesn't mean is that the man is a felon, a danger to society or a flight risk so there is no reason to detain him.Not one of us has the first clue what "paperwork error" means. You keep ignoring this.

That right there is a hanging offense.Yes, it’s all just a “paperwork miscommunication.” He didn’t file the required Form I-751 by his deadline in 2015 and made no effort to file it at all in the 10 years since. He did this to himself.
Does the law require ICE to haul the guy away to a different jurisdiction and tell his family nothing?I’m surprised you didnt hear “No one is above the law…” echoing in your ears as you typed that.
What the law requires is that you submit your forms and applications no later than the deadline proscribed by said law or else you are ineligible and subject to detention and removal.Does the law require ICE to haul the guy away to a different jurisdiction and tell his family nothing?
I am all for enforcing the law. I do mind the jackbooted approach to doing so. The assholery is the point.
If it turns out that ICE is not required by law to arrest and incarcerate this individual, will you concede that the agency's behavior is just dickish and cruel and WRONG?What the law requires is that you submit your forms and applications no later than the deadline proscribed by said law or else you are ineligible and subject to detention and removal.
Absolutely not. He been flaunting the law for 10 years and deserves to be detained pending deportation. If it turns out that ICE is not required by law to arrest and incarcerate this individual, will you concede that the agency's behavior is just dickish and cruel and WRONG?
He has been in custody (at our expense) for a month, with still no determination made as to his fate. If it is legally an option to release him pending a hearing or whatever the next step may be, WHY NOT? What's he going to do? Run back to Denmark, whither he would be deported anyway?
Evidence that he was "flaunting the law"?Absolutely not. He been flaunting the law for 10 years and deserves to be detained pending deportation.
You mean flouting the law, not flaunting. To flout means to disregard openly, knowingly. Do you have evidence that he knew he was missing the form? And if not, why would you assume he was? Remember, these people had not retained an immigration attorney.Absolutely not. He been flaunting the law for 10 years and deserves to be detained pending deportation.
Ignorance of the law is not a defense and it is his responsibility to know. There is no question here that he didn’t do it. There is no question here that he didn’t even attempt to remedy that for 10 years. So what follows is entirely his fault. You mean flouting the law, not flaunting. To flout means to disregard openly, knowingly. Do you have evidence that he knew he was missing the form? And if not, why would you assume he was? Remember, these people had not retained an immigration attorney.
If it turns out that he had indeed forgotten to file it, what would you say then? Still "off with his head"?
Putting up straw men is a ineffective deflection from the question I keep asking. I didn't say any of things above. What I'm saying is that, unless mandated by law, ICE's response to the situation was draconian and brutal. No public purpose is served by incarcerating this individual pending a resolution, and it comes a great personal expense to him and his family. But apparently you enjoy the infliction of misery?Ignorance of the law is not a defense and it is his responsibility to know. There is no question here that he didn’t do it. There is no question here that he didn’t even attempt to remedy that for 10 years. So what follows is entirely his fault.
Why do you lie about things that are so readily disproved? He's been following instructions throughout, showing up every year as scheduled. He was there for his Naturalization interview. DHS has acknowledged this.Absolutely not. He been flaunting the law for 10 years and deserves to be detained pending deportation.
False. What is readily proved is that he did not submit Form I-751 by his deadline of 2015 as required by law and did nothing to remedy that in the 10 years since. He’s guilty. And he’ll pay the price. Why do you lie about things that are so readily disproved? He's been following instructions throughout, showing up every year as scheduled. He was there for his Naturalization interview. DHS has acknowledged this.
"I don't know what this means, but I'm totally competent to tell you what it means!"No idea what "paperwork error" means but what it doesn't mean is that the man is a felon, a danger to society or a flight risk so there is no reason to detain him.
