He has offered to buy me a gaming desktop
He has researched these 2 out and asked me if I need anything else. Upgrades etc

I'd get the largest regular, rectangular monitor you can find.

I got a large curved one and it blew out after a few months, but I don't remember the brand.

About the rest, liquid cooling sounds interesting, but I'd have to open the links, look at the two and compare them.

I am literally too lazy to do so.

My apologies.
 
From the little I know, cooling is critical for the efficiency of the microchips.

Get the best, most reliable cooling fans money can buy.

I don't know about the liquid cooling though. Granted, I can see liquid cooling improve processor performance - great for overclocking, but this is the first time I ever heard of a liquid cooled home PC, so I'd probably wait a generation or two.

That said, I'd love to hear about your experience in a year or so.
 
I suspect both would do you fine. I also suspect that 1T storage is something you will end up finding frustrating. Games take a ton of storage today.

I don't plan on playing several games that require large storage
I will download a couple or so. 4 or so max
Mostly looking at speed
Strategy games, wars historical battles etc
No role-playing games.
 
My advice is to build your own and save $1000's. Also Alienware was bought by Dell and they are pretty much overpriced junk. If you build your own you can upgrade it when it is outdated too. Gaming computers have short lifetimes.
 
I'm partial to dell computers. I'd get a non-curved rectangular monitor. Look at the specs carefully. Beefy power supply and extra slots means you can upgrade. I would skip liquid cooling. I use a gaming computer as a general purpose computer because they run very fast and you can surf the internet at high speed.
 
Between the two, you want the Corsair all day long. It has twice the memory, and a more powerful CPU. I've been using liquid cooled systems since 2012. I would never use a air cooler on something that runs as hot as the Intel i9. The best part is the quiet. Air cooled systems sound like there's a jet engine in the PC.
 
My inexpensive Dell laptop sits on a cooling pad. Never gets the slightest bit warm. Just has Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce RTX, solid state drive, 16GB, 64 bit. Plays MMOs just fine.
 
First of all, that Corsair site says it has a i9-14900f CPU, but further down it says it's a 17-14700k CPU. You should find out for sure which one it has.

Anyway...

Major differences between these two builds: CPU and RAM.

CPU - If the Corsair has the 14700k, then the only effective difference, other than the "k" having slightly better performance numbers, is that the "k" can be overclocked. The "f" cannot.

RAM - The more memory, the better...especially if you run a lot of apps and processes. I would even go so far as to recommend 64GB.

Upgrades: I recommend more SSD storage. 1TB will fill up fast, no matter what you think you'll put in it. I recommend 2-4TB's to start with. On the other hand, you can add more later, if you find yourself running out of storage space, depending on the Mother Board. Most current MB's have more than one M.2 slot.

And that brings up the only concern I have about either build: The MB. Neither one says what MB is installed. That can make a difference.

btw, the Corsair site says that computer is out of stock.

Liquid cooling is well established. I've used it for more than 15 years in computers that I have built.

Absolutely get a good curved monitor, unless you do high-stress competitive gaming. It's far more immersive and your eyes will thank you.

You'll want to look for a refresh rate of 120 Hz or better, response time of 5ms or lower, a resolution around 1440p, and an In-Plane Switching (IPS) display.

This is the one I have and I love it!

This is a whole other subjective can of worms. I can only give you my personal take.

In the past, I've always had 1080p flat monitors...27", mostly...and I have had a two monitor set up for a long time. That worked well. But last year, I decided to get a 32" 1440p (2K) curved screen monitor and I have to say it is VERY NICE. But yeah...they are expensive. I got one that is relatively cheaper cost, but good quality. It cost me about $200.00. Unfortunately, I had a mishap. Knocked the 32" monitor over and broke it. So I'm back to 2 1080p monitors for the time being.


btw, whichever of those two computers you go with, you'll be able to run the most demanding games at max graphics settings on a 1440p monitor. The games will look GREAT!

Oh...and my system...
