Yep I confess I am a gun nut.
I am the Walrus
I had the opportunity to discuss this last week with a Psychology PhD starting her post-doc work. Given the possibility of misdiagnosing a future killer, and the risk to the mental health professional's career and reputation, she can't think of anyone that would sign up to perform the screenings. Would such a mistake create criminal and civil liability for the screener? And a lot of gun guys will argue this one with me to buy your first gun you need to have a good to go stamp form a trained mental health professional. Perhaps people hired and trained by the state. Naturally a small fee would need to be charged.
I would have argued that a few years ago but I think mental health is a big factor in mass shootings and its worth the hassle to rule out people or at lest reduce them.
Can you legally own a gun in our country?Yep I confess I am a gun nut. I was first exposed to guns about age 5 on the farm with my dad shooting crows about age 5 .
After that I was slowing taught to hunt and fish as I got bigger. I got involved in shooting .22 targets And some of us boys had informal ,22 matches when the adults were having a turkey shooting march.
I have been involved in hunting many species over the decades and I also got into competition shooting from defense shooting to long range 600 yard shooting events.
I have built a few guns and also work on them.
I taught a class on shooting at a Collage . I have carried a gun as a Officer for the school and as a bank messenger for a major ski resort. And as a citizen for many decades,
I have no issue with reasonable back round checks but we have then now and those lying on them such as hunter Biden are often ignored. Just pointing that out.
Next I support all current laws regarding class 3 weapons , but not devices such as suppressors. I and some friends have a gun trust which include several suppressors a short barreled rifle and a machine pistol.
I believe to carry a gun you need to pass a background check and attended a class and show some degree of ability to draw and shoot and handle the gun safely.
To buy a hand gun you need to be 21 .

I endorse red flag laws but people have to understand what is a red flag and what is nt and have a add campaign showing the signs and or making it possible to talk to a 24/7/365 day a week trained staff . Pretty easy to attack that to the police or 911 services and reduce cost by using some existing infrastructure and staff.
Stop and frisk worked in nyc and keep a lot of guns off the street which if your a felon or dealing drugs was a big deal charge .
like to see that used . Yep it is a bit overreach but effective when used appropriately.
Possession of a stolen weapon needs to be a min 5 year sentence and more for a second offense.
I am not Maga or a commie or a Russian or a bot.
I was a democrat before I became a republican , but I had to grow up some time and face the real world.
Goo goo g'joob!I am the Walrus
You OK there fellow ?Hello. My name is Mr Person and I waste too much time on DP. I won't say I'm "powerless" but I do get kinda annoyed with myself. Like, "hey, Person, that break was supposed to be 10 minutes but now it's 30 minutes and your self-employed billing schedule is kinda ****ed so you'll be working later. Ass!"
I'm not sure that I believe this.I taught a class on shooting at a Collage .
I disagree. I can imagine @A Linoge teaching a class on shooting at a "Collage" - it most likely involved creating a collage of printed images of people shooting things.I'm not sure that I believe this.
I am the Walrus
You see I support reasonable gun laws and policy's and jail time for gun possession with out a permit and 10 years minimum for a second offense felon .Color me surprised.
NOT
I'm not sure that I believe this.
You can leave out the word gun.Yep I confess I am a gun nut.
Sorry but you would be wrong , we only allowed bullseye of various sizes from 1 inch to 12 inch one color paper or splatter .I disagree. I can imagine @A Linoge teaching a class on shooting at a "Collage" - it most likely involved creating a collage of printed images of people shooting things.
OK, so you made a collage of images of bullseyes of various sizes printed on color paper. Very nice. Was this at an art school? Community college perhaps? I normally associate collages with much younger grades so perhaps this was an elementary school assignment that you taught?Sorry but you would be wrong , we only allowed bullseye of various sizes from 1 inch to 12 inch one color paper or splatter .

Lol good one but I grew up after becoming a republican as I saw it was the party of reason and the democrat party was becoming more and more to the left. You taught a class at a collage eh?
Hmmmm.
Uh huh. And when were you planning on doing that? Soon?
I'm not sure that I believe this.
