nah he wanted a trophy too. it was a win win for him and the economy of the country that could find some guy who had that much jack to blow
Its just a dick waving exercise used to secure bragging rights for this macho f*ckwit at his local gun club nothing more
...as well as culling an older bull from the herd ( leaving them be decreases herd growth and health), making for a win-win-win.
extreme animal rights folks are horrible stewards ... they all too often let their emotions get in the way of time tested and proven conservation methods.
they don't understand that banning hunting has a similar effect as overhunting... in the end, the species suffers without population management.
you'll never be a good conservationist with that attitude.
With humans and bows and arrow. How did mother nature ever manage to regulate populations before great white hunter came along with his chequebook and gun I wonder ?
Well because it isn't about the money it's about culling sterile males. The article did not claim any problems. However, the article did state that they sell 5 kill licences a year (whether the animal is an asshole, old or both). If the hunter is so god-damned concerned about rhinos as he says he is, why doesn't he just donate the money... period? That right... he does not give a flying ****.

So you really think this has anything to do with conservation then ? He can send a cheque
Nature makes it a point to have the Elderly teach the young, usually the best. Humans interferred. This old rhino clearly had more to teach if he was a stalling the breeding. And now every rhino this old rhino could have taught (aggression, defense, combat, winning, tenacity, virulence) is lost because some human thought he had a good idea.
I think every cities meat supply should be provided by hunting if possible. But paying for the right to hunt a struggling species is wrong no matter what. even if its for money and supposedly going back to helping the species. Thats like saying "If we make a youtube video of us shooting a cannon ball at a chicken we will donate 100,000$ to help stop chicken abuse"
:lamo

Liberals should love it-its income redistribution at its finest. 350K to some third world nation
Ill accept my emmy now sir (i think that could be a meme)
No.Telling someone to shut up is trying to silence them and cut off their free speech rights.

so can anti-hunting faux-conservationists.... but as we both know, that doesn't happen to any substantial degree....
Hmmmmm. It may be a win for him, and it may be a win for the economy, but I am having trouble seeing how it could be a win for the rhinos.
I am curious to know what was done with the animal's horn. It's probably worth more than the actual cost of the kill.
the people charged with managing the health of the Rhino herd believe this harvest helps the herd.
as to the Horn, you are probably correct-I know that Asian markets for Rhino horn makes the stuff as valuable as pure cocaine for the weight
And given the Nambian governments long record sincerity how could we possibly doubt their peerless motivations
Conservancy corruption exposed | Namibian Sun
yeah, you being a Namibian elected official charged with maintaining the integrity of the Rhino population really knows what is best for that creature and country
Hmmm So what are they more interested in then do you think ? Conservation or exploiting their endagered wildlife in order to make a fast easy buck in a poor country. Thats a toughie :lamo
So far you have justified the killing of this rhino and what we do to other animals because humans have "reasoned" it to be necessary and because we see them as lower life forms. Said reasoning is incorrect on this matter and you have yet to show why exactly they are to be considered inherently "lower". Now you are using what is known as the appeal to nature to fallacy to justify your actions. Would you care to approach this subject rationally now please?Stepping on cockroaches? Or eating flesh of another animal? Well, roaches are lower lifeforms and they are pests. Eating flesh? Well I'm a human and humans are predators and carnivorous. So it is in my nature to eat the flesh of another animal. Thus neither needs to be justified.,
I didn't kill any rhino.
Saying something is idiotic does not automatically make it so. So far nothing is supporting this other than your subjective opinions. How silly the animal rights idiocy is
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. You and others cling to your stereotypical ideas of ARAs, but very few of them are based in truth. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you have never sat down and had a rational conversation with an ARA in your life. We care about other animals because they are our biological and evolutionary kin. Because, as modern science indicates, their minds ARE similar to our own and so we are able to empathize with them. It has very little to do with a ****ing Disney movie and the sooner you realize that the better you will be able to have these sorts of discussions.we call animal rights nut cases "Bambists" because they think Bambi was a documentary., Many of them have stilted interpersonal relationships so they create a fantasy world in their own minds where animals are given idealic human personalities and are elevated to a status, in the minds of the Bambists, above real humans. since their entire concept of how animals live-and more importantly-die, is fantasy, their suggestions are mythologically based idiocy. They aren't anti hunting based on any rational environmental understanding but because they see hunting as "murdering" ideal beings that they pretend to identify with
Protect the animals from the poachers then. Their potential misdeeds do not justify our own violent solutions. The problem with many conservation efforts is that they look at other animal species as some sort of amorphous blob where only the whole rather than the individual parts are important. Modern cognitive science indicates that animals are individuals that each posses their own unique personalities. Some are brave, some are more timid and sensitive, others are prideful. It's simply ridiculous to only think of the species as a whole in light of these facts. When we kill an individual animal we are causing that animal SUFFERING. A species, on the other hand, cannot suffer.it's even sillier when we look at countries where they put their beliefs into policy...especially African countries.
no better way for force extinction of some of these threatened animals than to ban managed hunts ( which leaves the killing to poachers, who aren't known to fund conservation efforts)
It's no wonder animal population grow and thrive when managed hunts are available... ( keyword is managed)
