....because we didn't want to compromise the publics' support for Abortion...

Well, it's good to see one so self-aware, to be honest. And self-critical; which requires maturity and is impressive.

...“For what it’s worth, I do think that those of us on the left have made a decision not to cover this trial because we worry that it’ll compromise abortion rights. Whether you agree with abortion or not, I do think there’s a direct connection between the media’s failure to cover this and our own political commitments on the left. I think it’s a bad idea, I think it’s dangerous, but I think that’s the way it is.”...

The caller in to the show of the video said an interesting thing I didn't know: the doctor was being investigated for selling oxycontin, which led to the discovery of the butchery.

It is also refreshing that the host of the show called what the doctor was doing "murder".

Gosnell's clinic was licensed, not an illegal clinic. One of the commentators Alex Seitz-Wald said that it was about safe and legal abortion...he's obviously in denial.

This story has been big in Philadelphia for more than two years, and only recently do we hear about it on national media.

If you don't see this as proof that mainstream media is liberal, you're hopelessly biased.

IF you watch the entire vid you don't see any leading media manager say anything, the highly select quote isn't speaking for all of the media outlets but one man's opinion. What struck me was again NO media outlet to include the so-called 'conservative' outlets did much on the actual trial and so much more in accusing 'liberal' media of doing exactly what the 'conservatives' were doing, hardly touching the actual trial.

You are attempting to spin a few comments into an entire industries stance and ignoring the trial didn't receive much attention from ANY media outlet to include Huckabee who makes his chops on just such issues.

Listen to the ENTIRE vid, not just a few snippets you want to hear from a few people who have zero say in what the major outlets decide to cover.

You list LA as your location, do you travel to Philly much? I have for the past 9 years, spent St. Paddy's day there again this year. this story has NOT been big in Philly for the past two years, it has received more attention due to being a local one, but by no means a big story.

The comparison to what an illegal clinic would be like is very obvious, if you don't see that you are in denial. His clinic wouldn't past even a sniff test inspection which means to me the funding for inspections and enforcement MUST be increased.

If you missed all the reports of how little the 'conservative' reporters cared about this trial until they saw a chance to beat-up on 'liberal' sources you are hopelessly biased.

Even if the media did, it wouldn't change my stance on abortion to allow it to remain legal.

Just like if the mainstream media covered all the instances of women dying from back alley abortions in places where abortion is illegal doesn't change the minds of those who are against abortion.

Just like if the mainstream media covered all the instances of teenage and 20-something women who don't get an abortion and raise their children in poverty with little private support doesn't change the minds of those who are against providing public support to young mothers.

Just like if the mainstream media covered all the instances of women who got pregnant when they were not financially stable or experienced enough in the world to raise a child but got pregnant doesn't change the minds of those ego do not want to use public funds or public policy to ensure them birth control until they are better able to be a parent.

Just like if the mainstream media covered this very story of a doctor killing innocents would not change the minds of those who favor the death penalty despite the innocents who are convicted and murdered by the state.

So, yes, this is a horrific case of an issue. But any stance on all issues have horrific cases. We should all be glad that it is just an outlier, though, and not the norm.

The video indicated that the story was big in Philly, and the video also indicated that the clinic was licensed.

He isn't as prominent as Howard Fineman, Chris Matthews, Carl Bernstein or other liberals who've said that the MSM is liberal, but as long as people here contend that it's only conservatives who see the MSM as liberal, it's worth mentioning every liberal who agrees.

It's not just American media. I find it telling that a maternal death in Ireland, the first one at that hospital in 15 years, became international news due to an emergency abortion request which may or may not have saved her life.

This trial struggled to make American national news and doesn't register at all in the international press. The BBC showed up yesterday for the findings of the inquest of Savita's death, yet they haven't covered this trial at all.

So don't pay attention to the video; just go for the facts about the virtual media blackout on Gosnell's trial.

Why the media ignored it was never a mystery, so this is no big revelation... But it's sure refreshing to hear someone on that side of the fence admit it for once.

The MSM IS liberal, , but not in a political sense, it's liberal because it allows all POV.

not equally, not even close, especially when they're choosing which stories to cover

The funding is insufficient to support even one inspection/audit in the last 20 years?

If 7 children died at the hands of a dentist, would that be enough for you to be a little outraged at the absence of governance from the already too-bloated regulatory goose steppers?

Really, at what point does one abandon party loyalty and yield to human pathos?

In so far as the allowed points of view support the advance of the Liberal agenda, you are right, sir.

Oh my.... LMAO
Great comment. Lol

The corporate media will always pick and choose which stories they will cover; sometimes they favor the Left and sometimes they will favor the Right.

Who was the featured guest on nearly every last Sunday morning talk shows April 14? Would that person most certainly be a presidential contender 2016?

Would you mind describing what that agenda is?

I couldn't find any direct quotes for Matthews or Bernstein that the media is liberal, Matthews says he is a liberal and Bernstein exposes the CIA's running agents with press credentials in the 'major' media outlets- hardly liberal majors if they permitted that.

Fineman- can't find a quote where he says the media is liberal, but can find where 'conservative' pundits claim he is so the bottomline is I can't find ANY quote where the three men you named claim anything for the general media make-up as conservative or liberal, just Matthews saying he has a liberal lean in his reporting.

Given the rhetoric you just typed in, I'd say the question is a fair one to ask you...

I'll stick with there needs to be a re-vamping of oversight and the medical associations constant blocking of meaningful reform when dealing with 'problem' doctor's needs to end.

In this case, it is not allowing the exposure of any activity, no matter how criminally and morally indecent to be presented into the public forum that my oppose the Party Line which forbids even the discussion of the ideas surrounding the act of abortion unless those ideas are limited exclusively to very narrow topic of the "right" of a woman to chose.

Any ideas on abortion that stray from that central point of discussion are ignored by the Liberal media. This example is a very good one that involves literally killing crying infants that have been born.

In the case of this particular clinic, I heard on a radio broadcast that it had not been inspected in about 20 years. It is difficult to regulate something that is systematically excluded from the oversight of the professionals probably due to the work being done.

If there is not inspection or audit, how would a problem doctor ever be put in a position where a Medical Association would need to protect him. This sounds more like a corrupt and agenda driven government problem than a medical association problem.

I wonder how liberals would react if the media "made a decision" not to cover Sandy Hook for fear that it may jeopardize gun rights.

The Medical association protects by fighting very hard against routine inspections, the very fact so few clinics receive ANY scrutiny is the work of protective associations. I can agree with a corrupt government in the politicians get campaign support from powerful and deep professional pockets... and that comes with strings attached.

The AMA isn't the only such sweetheart collaboration, if you buy a cut of meat with the purple USDA stamp on it two things are almost 100% certain, no USDA Inspector did that and the plant it came from hasn't been inspected in years. long ago the meat industry and the oversight agency came to an agreement- voluntary compliance.

.

So more regulation, then? Expand the government's power perhaps?

more regulation of abortion providers?

absolutely

and end third trimester abortions

This story -- which if nothing else suggests that live births do, in fact, happen during late-term abortions -- upsets a particular narrative about the reality of certain types of abortion, and that reality isn’t something some pro-choice absolutists want to discuss.

Why Is the Press Ignoring the Kermit Gosnell Story? - Bloomberg

This has disturbing implications for late-term abortions. It suggests that sometimes those fetuses are delivered alive. Worse, it hints at what we might be doing inside the womb to ensure that the other ones aren't.
