The most important service that NATO routinely provides its members, is shared intelligence about terrorist organisations and bad actor states which is based on an assumption that it's members will only share that intelligence with other NATO members, not adversaries whose goals are destabilizing NATO member states. That assumption is permanently dead, because one of two major power sharing political parties in the US has decided its foreign policy goals involve an alliance with Russia, the epitomy of a destablization adversary with a stated goal of defeating NATO, against the interests of fellow member states.
That same political party has unilaterially undermined international confidence in this country's words, commitments and promises by breaking commitments it made to Ukraine an ally of NATO member states, who's very survival depended on those commitments that this country made.
That same political party actively and brazenly endorses the wholesale displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, further fueling a worldwide radical jihadist terrorist response and recruitment bonanza, which will require greater cooperation and trust among intelligence agencies throughout the NATO alliance for decades to come.
That same political party has decided to turn both its neighbors, with whom it shares 5,525 mile of border to the north, and 1,954 mile border to the south into implacable hostile adversaries over a series a trade disputes secondary to the unilateral American demolition of NAFTA and the USMCA treaty that followed.
Do we expect a unified and integrated intelligence sharing atmosphere to flourish among all these adversaries? Do we expect not to need a unified and integrated intelligence sharing atmosphere among the adversaries we created, with the larger target we painted on our own backside and with more radicalized terrorist organizations that we motivated and inspired to learn how to shoot that target?
I do not know enough synonyms for 'stupid' to cover this situation.
