Howard For President?

You critisize 'wacko lefties' and Hillary Clinton in the same breath? Which is it?

Interesting that he was so instantly and viciously attacked by those that purport to value diversity, democracy, and free speech.

Hypocrisy on display.

I agree that it is going to take a long time for journalists to climb out of their credibility hole.

Howard who?

There is already a bored billionaire in the WH according to him being a billionaire. As for being bored, his attention span kind of proves that.

I'm not sure conservatives could have done anything when it comes to colleges and universities. I think the take over of the universities was rooted in the anti-war movement during Vietnam. That bred the professors and later the faculty who run and operate the so called institutions of higher learning. They became a place to breed and advance the leftist agenda. The debate of ideas, different philosophies, free speech if you will, being replaced by Trump and conservative free zones. The baring of differing political ideas from campuses.

The elites have always ruled this nation. The masses for the most part follow their lead. Free thinkers we are not.

Interesting thought process regarding your post. The left have been all over criticizing him for diluting the Democratic vote, but, all they have to do is nominate a moderate and Howard won't run as an Independent. So, instead of bullying him, maybe the left ought to think seriously about nominating a moderate instead of an extreme socialist.

Last election was Joe Biden's time - but with all DNC and MSM power behind Clinton - combined with all her money - caused him to chicken out. His boat sailed and his day now is past. But in 2016 he was THE Democrat MOST capable of handling Trump's sneering style. No one can out sneer Joe Biden - and Joe Biden knows how to talk to old white people, which is the core of Trump's support.

Another angry, ranting white haired old woman like Elizabeth Warren? A pure socialist like Harris?

We can't know what Trump's chances are until we know who the Democratic Party alternative nominee is.

I still see Michelle Obama as a potential run. She is probably the strongest potential candidate the Democratic Party has - IF she can continue to control her temper and radical views - meaning she would have to stay on script.

I agree. Perhaps Joe knew that Hillary was chosen to be the Democrats 2016 nominee in a secret meeting between Obama, Bill and Hillary prior to the 2012 election. The DNC and Democratic state party leaders did all they could to make sure that happened by jury rigging the primaries in Hillary's favor. I'm sure Joe could have handled Trump and would have won going away. I would have voted for Joe instead of third party against Trump, that is for sure. I always like him even when he was a senator. What a shame.

Yes, until the Democrats choose their nominee, no one can be certain what will happen. They very well could choose another Hillary Clinton type candidate that ends up being more disliked than Trump. Warren was one of those I was talking about in my post. Winning a national election is all about nominating someone who can appeal to independents, attract their votes. Hillary didn't do that or couldn't. Warren would have a hard time attracting them also.

If they choose Pocahontas, Trump will win.

OMFG!!!!

I can't believe I just read this.

This is would also guarantee 4 more years of Trump but by a much larger margin.

I wouldn't go that far in predicting. But the choice of Warren certainly let's Trump back into the game.

Trump eliminated her the day SHE released her ancestry test. What a dope she is.

I personally hope that there will be a viable independent choice for Americans. I'll support him/her! Nothing will change as long as these two parties control things.

I think too that the progressive base, Our Revolution, Justice Democrats etc are going to really push for a hard left to win. They already are making medicare for all, free college etc the litmus test for support. They then bash the others. Kamala is being bashed for her role as a prosecutor, Gillibrand for being a fraud, Booker for being a Wall St shill etc. They are pushing for Sanders, Warren, Brown etc to win. So I do think if Biden were to win, they will go after him as well for being a centrist. I heard one of them saying they dont care about indies as "people are now in the progressive camp." Its that thinking that got Trump elected in the first place.

McGovern redux.

McGovern redux.

It could be especially if a far leftie wins the nod and Schultz jumps in. We could see Trump win a lot of EC votes and still be around 40% popularity. Its such a mess. I was listening to the guy that heads up the Justice Democrats and he actually said "80% of US voters are progressives today."

Reminds me of the famous story about the late NY Times critic Pauline Kael, who expressed shock that Nixon was reelected in 1972. "All my [upper East Side] friends voted for McGovern." They live in their own world.

Exactly. What I like to say about 2016 is that the Republicans tried handing the White House to the Democrats on a silver platter by nominating Trump. Then the democrats threw that silver platter right back in the Republicans faces by nominating someone as disliked by America as a whole as Trump was. We know the results of that. We don't know what will happen in 2020.

The Democrats could very well make the same mistake they made in 2016. Time will tell. The bottom line is candidates matter. The question is, will both parties ignore independents again in 2020 as they did in 2016. You're correct, the thinking of the Democrats that independents didn't matter is what cost them the election. That same type of thinking could bite them once again in 2020.
