How will Brexit go?

We got what we signed up for. This lie about we only signed up for a common market is just that, a lie. Politicians on both sides made it clear that it was much more than that.
Nobody in Britain even had EU membership on the radar in 2015, until the EU started introducing legislation against tax havens, and the populist hounds were unleashed against it.
Exactly.

The Euro, European Bank, common market and so on was all in the original treaty. It just took decades to figure out how and when to do it.

Just get over it...the majority of people who bothered to take part in the referendum decided the EU wasn’t for them so we have left. Shortly , hopefully, we’ll be completely free of the EU’s regulations and laws.
The conspiracy theory that the British people were misled by evil Tories is laughable...the EU is a great big shit sandwich and it doesn’t matter if the bread is alright or not.

Political ideas that are not founded on the will of the people are bound to fail...and no one asked for a shit sandwich.

Still no concrete evidence of how things will be better. All the signs point downhill from here. A year from now, your shit sandwich will be looking like a sumptuous feast.

RFN Johnson's government is building 29 lorry parks across the south to hold the lines of trucks waiting in line to cross the channel (Two of those sites are currently Covid sampling stations.)
Goldman Sachs has moved 100 jobs to the EU
I already mentioned JPM's transfer of $200 Bn to Frankfurt.
13,000 Lloyds bank customers alone living in the EU will lose their British bank accounts.
Those Britons with holiday homes in the EU will now only be able to access them for 90 days per year.
Blacktower Finance group are relocating to Cyprus.
IBM Cloud has shut down it's UK servers and relocated to Frankurt, to better serve their EU customer base.
The UK has lost out on contracts for the next SIX Copernicus satellite missions.
The government has had to set aside £115 million to set up new customs red tape.
The UK is about to lose the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting. Numerous EU states are in a bidding war..

So much Freedom from EU regulations! Not really If we want to sell them anything we have to meet their regulations anyway. We just no longer have any say in what they are. We ****ing drew up most of them!

My commiserations and adios.

That tune is tickling my memory cells, But I can't place it!
I see Spain is treating British residents in Spain much more kindly than Britain is treating Spanish (and other EU) nationals here.
Still, any Brit with a holiday home in Europe will only be able to spend ninety days a year there from January.

I saw English ex-pats on TV here saying that they voted for Brexit but now they are worried. What possessed them to shoot themselves in the foot? Many of them have been in Spain for years and can barely make a sentence in Spanish, preferring to hang out in English bars, reading the Daily Mail and associate with fellow Englanders. For them Brexit represented the best of being English and different. They are singing a different tune now. Utterly bewildering!

Yeah, the end of some data sharing agreements would indeed cause issues for crime fighting on both sides of the channel. Chunnel? Why on Earth is it called Chunnel?
Channel + Tunnel. I don't think 'chunnel' gets much used nowadays, thankfully.

Meanwhile Priti Patel is coming up with all the blue sky thinking on immigration:

In a years time you’ll still be telling me what a disaster U.K. independence is , not because it will be ...but because that’s what you want it to be.

The reality is that having less bureaucracy, less pointless politicians and a bit more democracy will benefit this country far more than selling out to some leftist wet dream of empire.

When Spain has the same power and influence in the world as the U.K. then maybe Spain will also have the balls to pull away from its German/Franco masters...obviously never going to happen...but I wouldn’t bank on them not dropping you once you socialists have completely ****ed Spain’s future up.

English "power and influence" my arse.

Empty noises as usual. The sunlit uplands beckon. Certainly not reality. We currently have a pointless cabinet of morons whose only qualification for the job is their Brexitiness and mendacity, more bureaucracy, see thousands of customs staff, permits to enter Kent, FFS! and less democracy as the country is run by fiat of Johnson's mad SpAd Cummings. That's BEFORE we end the transition grace period. We've already given up some of the much vaunted fishing rights back to the EU!

The release version of the new software system required to implement customs procedures will not be ready until April 2021, with a beta version expected by mid-December 2020.

I think one of the funniest things about the whole Brexit thing is how unprepared Britain seem to be to take over for themselves things that were done through the EU one way or another. I mean ffs, you have had years to come up with a system for your own customs procedures, should have started the moment you decided not to stay in the customs union, but Britain is like: "wow, we had no idea that doing our own customs mean we have to have to do everything ourselves". Of course you friggin did. You left, why aren't YOU prepared for that?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in court - that is when the case finally arrives at court. No doubt this will take years, which is probably Bojo's strategy.

The deadline ended yesterday for the UK govt to change its course on ditching its plans to override sections of its Brexit divorce deal.

Bojo caved on fishing rights... Who would have thought? His proposal, which the EU has been asking for over a year, is to draw down the current deal over 3 years to something undefined...

BoJo's whole thing is Brexit, so he will do anything to keep Brexit in the political discourse.

Only three months to go to get a comprehensive agreement with the EU. It will not happen.

He doesn't want it to happen. If he gets an agreement Brexit goes away. If he doesn't Brexit remains a thing.

I love the fact that a bunch of foreigners and British born progressives , who clearly despise the U.K , also hate the fact that one of the most successful countries in the world is leaving the dying protection racket that is the EU.

All I read on this thread is negativity aimed at the U.K...but I’ll tell you this, it’s the best country in the world in which to live and Britain leaving the EU is a disaster for the EU, not the U.K....as time will prove.

That's funny because most people on DebatePolitics believe the USA is the best country in the world in which to live. Ha! Ha!
