People are bored. All official threads will be posted by Sangha. I think we need as many unofficial threads as possible. The more threads we have the more likely it is to catch someone's attention. Seeing the whole convention engaged also allows us to find talent from the participating members. This also gives us more opportunities to 'politic' and build alliances. Ideally I'd like to see 83 threads (one for each member).

Alright then, I'll do my part. I was wondering what kind of protocol would be involved in the debates over what amendments we should make. I was thinking that we could have a three-part debate for each amendment, which would follow this general format:

Stage 1:brainstorming
Just a standard DP thread; a topic is given, and people state their opinions on what the solution should be.

Stage 2: solution poll
After we have decided on a few viable options, we make a poll for people to vote on. The OP would explain the different option in-depth, and provide a few links to the posts that described it best in the brainstorming thread. If there is a tie, or no clear majority opinion is established, a runoff poll is optional between the most popular picks.

Stage 3: wording poll
Once the amendment has been decided on, we have to decide how it should be worded. Just post your suggestions, and vote with your likes.

Discuss.

I would like the discussion to be as open and inclusive as possible. If everybody would leave his/her usual more contentious forum personality at the door and really hear and explore what various concepts and issues are raised, we will have a better chance to arrive at some kind of compromise or consensus.

Confrontational "you haven't proved your point so I don't have to make an argument for mine" stuff just shouldn't cut it.

I do think we should have an understanding that if something is going to be proposed or stated, whoever proposes it should be able to make a good argument for it.

We don't have a protocol yet for bringing an item up for a vote. That power currently rest in the hands of the president. Stage 1 is already in motion and working efficiently. I think Stage 2 would be creating a final 'motion' or 'amendment'. Stage 3 would be lobbying the other members to agree with you. I think 20 people agreeing in unison should be a sufficient justification to bring it to Sangha. That can all be part of Stage 3. Stage 4 would be for the President to post a poll for a 'yes' or 'no' vote. Polls should never include options in my opinion. If the final vote concludes, 'no' then we can explore the second best option. If the final vote concludes, 'yes' then the Secretary should record it as the Official position of the Constitutional Convention.

Thanks for getting the discussion started on how we make rules around here. It's a valid concern.

Let's get the discussion started.
