Happy Juneteenth everybody! I hope everyone is enjoying their day off or double pay day.

Juneteenth is a new federal holiday. How do you think Americans should be celebrating it?

The Options:

Picnic / BBQ - You celebrate it, just like the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
Go to Mass / Religious Service / Engage in prayer - You thank God for that America ended slavery and black people received full citizenship rights.
Watch a Documentary / TV Show / Film / Play about the Civil War - Celebrate the day by watching or reading something about the Civil War or Slavery.
Community Service - Volunteer at the local food shelter or soup kitchen.
Watch a movie / Documentary / TV Show / Play with mostly a black cast and crew - Doesn't have to be about the Civil War or Slavery. Honor black cinema.
Give a black person a high five - If you see a black people on the street give them a hug / high five and tell them to have a wonderful day.
A Moment of Silence - Before you eat your food, you give a moment to honor the person who were impacted by the American Civil War and Slavery.
Complain about the day - Do nothing and simply call it a Woke or DEI Day.
Do nothing - Treat like any other day.

Thirteen percent of the population can treat Juneteenth the same way as the Fourth of July. Have fun with a barbecue with friends and remind everyone how fortunate we are to live in the greatest country in the world.
Unfortunate circumstances could have put any one of us in Tehran waiting for more missiles to hit. But we, in this great country, won the birth lottery so we can pity those unfortunate souls who can only dream about living in the greatest nation in the world.

The country does not need any more federally funded holidays.

I would like Juneteenth celebrated by the President of the United States perform this on national television.

It's a great time for 87% of the country to celebrate that they are free from the responsibility of others being held bandage bondage, a great step toward for our nation in fulfilling our founding principles.

The country has not opposed a rebel government or slaveholder holding anyone in bondage since 1865.
So we've been free from that onerous responsibility, according to our Constitution, for over 150 years.

Same thing I do for every other holiday outside of TG and Xmas. Nothing. Well, work maybe. Have worked plenty of them.

I could do without cooking for TG and cooking/buying gifts for Xmas as well.

This day marks that beginning.

Learn American history, please.

Last week they lynched a colored boy.
They hung him to a tree.
That colored boy ain’t said a thing
But we all should be free.
Yes, m’am!
We all should be free.

Not meanin’ to be sassy
And not meanin’ to be smart—
But sometimes I think that white folks
Just ain’t got no heart.
No, m’am!
Just ain’t got no heart.

I voted to do nothing. Because any day with good weather is a good day for a picnic or a barbecue. Not everybody is religious.

I would rather suggest read about Nat Turner in the slave rebellions don't watch the documentaries they're horrendously boring. They seem to repeat things over and over and over to fill a certain amount of time.

Serving your community doesn't require a special day.
Watching movies made today just because they have black people in them seems a little silly.

Only give a black personal high five or hug if they're your friend and you know them that way. But it shouldn't be just special for one day I think that might come off as a little weird.

A moment of silence is self-serving and nothing else.

Complaining about the day is self-serving and nothing else.

Doing nothing and treating it like an ordinary day since the only way I think to celebrate it because it's just an ordinary day.

Other

I went to the grocery store.
I went to City Hall on business, and found the place shut down, without even a note on the door.

They should celebrate however they want.

Personally I don't get the day off work so I'm not celebrating at all.
