If you're done shopping or not, total up how much you've spent or will spend. The average person spends about $791 on gifts according to the American Consumer Credit Council. That seems a bit high to me, but I don't have kids of my own to buy for.

Also... Who do you buy gifts for? I've heard people say they buy gifts for their mailmen, hair stylists, etc. but I have never done that. I buy for my parents, my nieces and nephews, a few friends, sometimes my siblings and my students.

I'm de minimus about gift giving around the holidays. I doubt I'll spend more than a couple of hundred dollars. There are no children in my life, and my extended family lives all over the country, so I pretty much only buy things for my mom, her husband, my brother, and his girlfriend (who always spends Christmas with us, because she hates her family).

I spent roughly $400....that includes a lil gift for me! :)
