Illegal immigrants… illegal aliens … undocumented workers… persons living in the United States without legal permission…Whatever you choose to call them, there are roughly 11 to12 million of them living in our country, and President Obama says he plans to do something about that very soon.

“Soon” as in“before the end of the year,” the president said in his press conference last Wednesday, the day after his Democratic Party lost control of the Senate.

Or maybe even sooner than that. “Every day that I wait we’re misallocating resources,” Obama said on Sunday.

But if his fix, as rumored, is to grant amnesty to an estimated 5 million illegals, he’ll be making a huge mistake, because we simply can’t afford it.

Amnesty will cost you, the American taxpayer, a fortune. And that’s why so many, including me, are strongly opposed to the idea.

It would be cheaper that they remained illegal aliens.

It would actually cost the American tax payers less money if we actually enforced our immigration laws and deported all aliens who are in our country illegally while giving America the middle finger.
 
Probably much less than militarizing the border and deporting all of the undocumented. It makes more sense to just normalize them and make them taxpayers rather than waste resources rounding them up and keeping them out.

They (the government) could just enforce the laws that already exist. Wonder how much that would cost.

"Enforcing the laws" entails more than simply putting up a fence and tearing down spanish signs. It's costly, wasteful, and inefficient. An insane fiscal endeavor. Kinda why enforcement has been so relaxed lately to begin with. We don't have billions to waste on a militarized border. On more border agents. On resources to catch those already here. Just make them ****ing taxpayers...why is that such a tragedy to some people?

You didn't read the Heritage Foundation study did you TeleKat. Nobody can read 5,000 words per minute and have a 80% comprehension of what they read.

The Senate's amnesty in the long run (over the years) will cost 1 Trillion Dollars.

Agreed. But again, why not enforce the laws that have already been passed? If the laws need to be changed fine. If the process for legal immigration need to be improved - great. If the technology that the INS uses is outdated then update it.

That is true of nearly all crime, even murder. Its not about saving money its about enforcing the law. Ask some native Americans if they think it saved their resources by having no control over their borders.

You don't exactly have the best track record with "studies" Pache. The last one you wasted my time with lumped illegals and legals in the same category to make it look like illegals are soaking up welfare benefits.

All of that is pure speculation.

I doubt the cost of trying to deport millions of people spread all throughout the USA would be all that cheap either.

As for the "long run cost" argument.

Depending on the taxes the illegals will pay a good chunk of that can be offset.

That being said, I'm not pro-amnesty but we need immigration reform.

Also, didn't Reagan (a god to the conservatives for some reason) essentially give amnesty to all Illegals in the US when he was in office?

most of the ones he is goint to grant amnesty to will be on the system and pay no taxes wake up !

Meh, the Republicans will go all gung ho and then end up with a lot of empty rotting farms (that would suck, especially since the food industry is one America's biggest specialties).

They'll also be the first to cry because they want their peasants back so that they can work them like dogs and pay em little (which is natural and I have no complaints against).

So tired of that comparison. It's a non-argument. The native americans were literally fighting our guns with stick and arrows. Had nothing to do with whether or not they enforced their borders. Wouldn't have mattered.

However, America is one of the biggest military superpowers in the world. We can (and should) defend our country from valid threats. A bunch of desperate immigrants fleeing a brutal and economically deprived country is nowhere near on the same level of the colonists' genocide.

Was it me or the study ???

Illegal alien "families" use as much welfare as legal immigrants. 50% so they say. Rug rats be they "dreamers" or "anchor babies" are a gold mine if you're a non citizen who wants to suck off of the Americans who actually pay taxes.

My father who shan't be named was granted amnesty under Reagan. He had never taken a dime of welfare.

#1 It went against his core beliefs

#2 He simply wasn't allowed to.

In layman law terms, we will forget you are a low life criminal and will not prosecute you for the crimes you already have committed against society and the country. But you will always live knowing you are a criminal.

I suppose that you never heard of any crime committed by desperate folks that see laws as mere suggestions or unfair impediments to their personal prosperity. My question is when, if ever, do you draw the line? If 5 million, of the 20 estimated million, are now deemed okey dokey then when (and how) will we deal with the other 15 million? The answer is obvious - never (and rinse and repeat).

Virtually the same thing was tried in 1986 - it did not work then and it will not work now.

Think about what Obama wants to do here - criminals get a pass if they already made anchor babies - what about the gay, elderly and newer arriving illegals that are being discriminated against by that policy?
 
Corporate welfare is costing America way, way more than illegal immigrants.

Enough with the baiting and switching. It's time we target the real drains on our economic way of life.

The proposed amnesty plan includes a path to citizenship, which would bring them out of the shadows and make them taxpayers. The only way they would be wasting our money is if this amnesty plan is turned down. How? Because law enforcement resources would be wasted tracking all these guys down, meanwhile they will not be paying taxes.

Normalize them and make them taxpayers. There's no ****ing way we are getting all these guys out and we will waste billions trying to do it. No self-respecting fiscal conservative would support such idiocy.
