Look at the expressions on these cops faces...they look like they'd rather be having root canals!Today, in Michigan, Trump delivers some remarks; basically a mini campaign rally speech. How does the township/county square a patrol car and uniformed deputies to stand behind him?

There is a substantial difference between people who assemble automobile and those that have power over citizens, “protect and serve,” means everybody!Freedom of speech. Cops don't give up freedom of speech when they becomes cops.
If the UAW can hold a rally for Harris in an auto plant, cops have the same right.

Not when it comes to free speech. I think I've made it abundantly clear that I despise Trump and think he's a threat to democracy. But we can't stop him by ourselves undermining democracy. What point are yu attempting to make, here?
I have seen enough of Trump’s ‘remarks,’ do you not see the difference between law enforcement and auto workers?
Freedom of speech. Cops don't give up freedom of speech when they becomes cops.

They're officially endorsing Trump.Their car and uniforms are for official purposes. This has zero to do with freedom of speech.
They're officially endorsing Trump.
OMG, yes. And they have a right to do it and and I support that right.Did you not follow?
These are state issued being used politically
That's not completely correct. Public employees while discharging their duties have more limitations on their speech than the rest of us. Offhand I don't recall the details.Freedom of speech. Cops don't give up freedom of speech when they becomes cops.

What's the problem?Today, in Michigan, Trump delivers some remarks; basically a mini campaign rally speech. How does the township/county square a patrol car and uniformed deputies to stand behind him?

Not on duty they don’t!Not when it comes to free speech. I think I've made it abundantly clear that I despise Trump and think he's a threat to democracy. But we can't stop him by ourselves undermining democracy.
Those cops have the same freedom of speech rights as everyone else.
Personally, I don't mind police being depicted in backgrounds such as these so long as they have some official role at the event e.g. providing security. Public service organizations should be able to advertise their good work, and "helping protect a Presidential candidate" is something cool and to be proud of even when said candidate is human scum. Some of those officers may not even like Donald Trump, but may still be delighted to be photographed on such an occasion. It would be a moment of pride.Sheriff is a very political position here in NJ. The Sheriff is elected - and they aren’t your standard “cops”. They don’t do typical “cop” things here. That’s your local police department.
I’m assuming it’s the same in other states.
President and candidate are two different animals.OMG, yes. And they have a right to do it and and I support that right.
The president has a Marine Corps band play while he stands in front of Air Force One and speaks. He gives speeches at military bases, sometimes with tanks or fighter planes in background. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech.
Yep. I agree.Personally, I don't mind police being depicted in backgrounds such as these so long as they have some official role at the event e.g. providing security. Sometimes we need to take ourselves out of our own shoes and imagine wearing theirs. For police officers perhaps never having been in the media, never having been so close to a former President, just being able to show their family pictures like these would bring a great deal of pride. It would be a morale booster for a department.
The sheriffs here attend all sorts of political events with political candidatesNot on duty they don’t!
What they do on their time, different story. In uniform and with official vehicles, bought by tax-payers as a back-drop, there is something wrong with that.
We live in a rural Virginia county and the sheriffs department is our police. We also elect the sheriff. I have no idea if it is legal, must be, but it sends a wrong message, imo.The sheriffs here attend all sorts of political events with political candidates. Mostly of the Republican ticket currently because our current sheriff is GOP.
It really doesn’t phase me.
It’s not like a sheriff is typically out on the street monitoring for traffic violations or something, that’s not their job here (your mileage may vary by state I suppose)
OMG, yes. And they have a right to do it and and I support that right.
I think it would send the wrong message only if say Harris stopped by and they refused to do the same.We live in a rural Virginia county and the sheriffs department is our police. We also elect the sheriff. I have no idea if it is legal, must be, but it sends a wrong message, imo.
I see that the Livingston County Sheriffs Dept closes at 5PM, so. Don’t know what their function is. Military or LEO, in uniform, shouldn’t support one party, imo.
I think it would send the wrong message only if say Harris stopped by and they refused to do the same.
What are the odds?I think it would send the wrong message only if say Harris stopped by and they refused to do the same.
