Florida is aiming to become the first US state to cancel all of its vaccine mandates, many of which require children to get jabs against diseases like polio in order to attend public schools.

The state's top health official, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, likened the mandates to "slavery", in announcing the plans.

"Who am I to tell you what your child should put in your body?" he said. "I don't have that right. Your body is a gift from God."

Florida officials did not give a timeline or details on ending the mandates. Several may only be repealed through a vote by the Republican-led state legislature, while others can be scrapped by the state health department.
Either states outside Florida defy the Federal government and close their borders or we're looking at a multi-disease pandemic with players like Polio and measles making a major comeback.

Defiance or death. There's no third option here, folks. Quarantine Florida OR WATCH YOUR KIDS DIE.

Republicans who post here automatically concede they want deadly childhood diseases to cull the herd nationwide.

Right to travel. But if more maga states adopt this, it's going to lead to some kind of...something. Dunno. Constitution shouldn't be a suicide pact. States rights can't mean your plague can come to us.

Most of my life the anti-vax crowd was primarily made up of hippie Democrats in California. Now, it’s almost entirely a “right wing” phenomenon.

Regardless of party affiliation, understand the viewpoint comes from a place of liberal individualism (natural rights, small government, “don’t tread on me”, etc). It’s funny to watch the Right constantly revert back to liberalism in order to feel safe.

If you are from out of state and want to sign up at our schools, sports clubs etc, show us proof of your vaccine status, or go back to where you came from.

What is going to be really interesting to watch is how people in the 'plague states' react when eventually struck by some sort of epidemic as the protection of decades of vaccine taking disappears. Will they all just stay where they are and pray harder, or will they try to escape to other states where the protection of vaccines still exists?

This is actually spot on. RFK Jr comes from that circle. The crossover between "crunchy" lefties and far right on vaccines and most modern medicine is virtually identical.

I look at vaccines as part of my comprehensive health maintenance.

There is no political slant at all. I don't consider it "liberal" to be skeptical of vaccines, I don't consider vaccines to be part of "big government". Its just good sound medical planning.

Liberalism and libertarianism are different, the first is about protecting the individual as a part of society, society included, whereas libertarianism is much more about the self and much less about society. Anti-vaxers are much more aligned with libertarianism.

Right to travel.
That's going to run into terminal level resistance as whooping cough, tetanus, and the heavyweight polio start hitting. States will choose rebellion over burying their kids.

That won't stop tourists from there coming in and spreading the disease. We've seen how plague rats have become petri dishes for vaccine-resistant COVID. Repeat that with whooping cough or Polio and as The Brad Dad put it, the Constitution becomes a suicide pact.

They'll escape to other states

with potentially vaccine-resistant strains.

They don't. MAGA stupidity will take a good percentage of the rest of us down with them, via economics or disease or policies. And thus they achieve their ultimate goal of pwning doze libz.

Liberalism with mostly arbitrary utilitarian exceptions vs. liberalism followed to its logical conclusion. Both, in terms of political theory, are liberalism. Both have a maximalist approach to individual liberation and harm prevention. If anything, libertarians are more honest and sincere adherents whereas liberals are made uncomfortable by a society with a bit too much Darwin in it.

I dunno.

States tolerate classrooms of slaughtered first graders.

All bets are off IMO. Its a cult after all.
Polio kills on a whole different scale than mass shooters. And that's without its gang of friends that go uncaged without vaccines.

They will until the world hits the entire USA with a travel ban, which they will out of self-preservation. That's the other threat Florida faces.

I am not opposed to picking up what you're laying down. We are in unprecedented territory with maga and Trump. I don't think they understand the third rail they're ****ing with, and all the concern trolling online isn't going to put it all back together if it blows to pieces.

Would we want to put it all back together? That means reuniting with MAGA. This would blast us free of white nationalism, patriarchy and theocracy. Who after that would want that back in their lives?

Where was that mindset as millions were flooding the border?

I am not that worried about the children whose parents fail to immunize them, the parents are at fault for whatever happens to them. I am worried about those children who because of medical concerns cannot be vaccinated, as they will pay the price of the anti-vaxxers decision not to vaccinate their children. If I was the parent of one of those children who cannot for medical reasons get vaccinated and my child dies because of this decision by the state, I would sue their asses off.

I'm worried about their children - they're just kids for crying out loud. But you should be worried about yourself and any kids you have across the country, hypothetically speaking - those infected can leave Florida and go anywhere. Look what unvaccinated folks did to Disneyland.

Now add Polio to that... and all its deadly friends, too.

We're potentially looking at the world slapping a travel ban on the USA because our polio would break their vaccines.

We give a vocabulary test at the border. Only the bravest even try before being turned back.

It works for us.

The states cannot constitutionally bar interstate travel nor impose tariffs on other states. That said, vaccine card requirements can be implemented.

I think you make it socially unacceptable to be maga like Germany did with Nazis after WW2.
