How are you feeling 2 weeks after election day?

Do you not remember who used that to get elected?
Not interested in learning from that link, eh?
It was a dumb claim which was quickly discarded as a useful campaign message.

Bemused. The Trump admin picks are as oderous as I expected.

Cool, I all the worst people hate them.

I can understand people being happy that their candidate won.

I just can't relate to the comment that a candidate winning an election would make you smile more than you ever have in your life.

It's not that our candidate won as much as it is your side lost. That brings us pure joy.

That's the sentiment you should expect after trying to imprison our political opponents with ridiculous cases, likening us to fascists and Hitler and the otherwise smug, condescending attitude that your side carries around that is irritating as hell.

As a conservative, I've been on top of the world. I've never smiled so much in my life, and it just feels better and better with each day.

I've loved watching Trump choose cabinet picks and I hope most of them get through. It seems Gaetz is the one getting the most conversation, but I sure hope they give him a chance. I was surprised at him as a pick, likely because none of the media lists of frontrunners included his name. But it's hard not to "get it" when one thinks about Trump's high priority of cleaning up and cleaning out the Justice Department. And my gosh, is that cleaning out ever SUPER high on my wish list. Little concerned me more than what I've considered to be an absolutely and dangerously corrupt justice system.

I LOVE the Musk/Vivek challenge and task, and I wish them so much success. That pairing and that mission is just a brilliant idea IMO. And due to Musk and X, I think it will be a gloriously transparent process - and I expect the country will love that open and honest transparency.

I love how many are really embracing Trump. The football players doing the Trump dance and the Trump golf swing moves, the warm welcomes he's getting at huge venues, the hats, and the open conversations cheering for Trump's success. It's kind of contagious and IMO, heartwarming. Trump has persevered through so much crap, and I love this outcome for him. I sure don't think Trump will waste a second of these next 4 years and it looks and feels like he'll have lots of support this time.

This forum has been a bit challenging for me in recent weeks. I made myself a promise I wouldn't wallow in anger and negativity if Harris won - instead putting more focus into things other than politics. And I made myself a promise that I wouldn't let Trump hate from others dampen my positive feelings if Trump won. It seems many here are pretty firmly addicted to the same Trump negativity they have held so firmly to for 8 years, so this forum still has a predominance of most threads deteriorating into orange man bad fests. So, many of my visits lately are just quick pop ins followed by a nah, not interested feeling and exit. Hopefully, we'll get back to more things like policy discussions, potential and hoped for future party leaders (from both parties) and such. Maybe that will happen after Trump's inauguration - which is an event that tends to generate interesting threads. We certainly know Trump will care about crowd size. ;)
The JOY is back now. Not much more to be said. We finally will get rid of 6'6" men in womans restrooms and soccer matches and volleyball games. We finally will get rid of hiring people based on their color and sex and sexual proclivities. We finally make gay parades on a par with short people parades or tall girls' parades. We finally can tell off color and sarcastic jokes again without worrying or listening to those who are offended. We finally can call an illegal and illegal. We finally have free speech again.

I mean really, how else would they expect us to feel but joyful?

The fact that you are not American enough to acknowledge the fair and honest election of a president of the United States is sad.

I always said Trump is the lesser of two evils.
The Electoral College and the popular vote have spoken.
Live with it.
I acknowledge that Trump won the election, also that he lost the 2020 election. Neither of those events makes him "worthy" to lead the nation.

Is this why so often when it comes to defending the actions and policies espoused by the people you vote, the response is "well it makes you angry!"?

Companies don't price their products/services based on their tax rates. Think about it.
The difference between taxing profit and covering the costs of production has been explained too many times to count. When something has been driven deep by politics, it gets lost. I doubt two years of accounting instruction could change their minds.

There's chatter that her next leap is to run for the governor of CA when grease terms out.
I would think her political career is over, but stranger things have happened.
She is politically dead, except for California.

One positive two weeks in is how Trump has been absolutely humiliating his own Cabinet picks. Forcing RFK Jr. to consume seed oils, toxins and artificial ingredients in front of cameras and before the whole world was amazing. This was a masterclass in emasculation.

I can’t wait to see how Donald humiliates Matt Gaetz.

No.

It's just a side benefit.

Worthiness is contingent upon how the electorate feels about him after two or four years. It is not dependent on how butt-hurt Liberal/Progressives feel about Kamala losing in a fair election.
Liberals will continue to feel their messages were really what the populace wanted to hear. So therefore, how could she possibly lose to the country's most hated felon?
SO join the Democrat leadership as they struggle to figure out why they lost. Obviously they're going to start with who they will select as their party leader in 2028. I hope they pick Newsom or Pritzker as their standard bearer.

I applaud standing up for convictions. It's certainly admirable. And that's as far as it goes. There are never going to be enough others to take a similar stand significant enough to cause the desired outcome. It amounts to waiting for something to happen that does not appear to be likely to ever happen simply through waiting and hoping. Meanwhile, election after election goes by and worse and worse people are getting elected. This most recent one appears to be poised to do serious damage to our government, if not rip it to shreds.

The practical realistic immediate approach is making a choice and accepting a compromise instead of trying to hold out for lofty ideals.

There is a very real reason both sides are corrupt. Corruption is legal in the United States. Big money flows into Congress, influencing everything that happens, and it's all totally legal. Big money gets it's way, and the rest of us are not properly represented. Until that situation changes, the idea of representative compromise is not going to happen. Dreaming of it won't make it happen. We have to end the corruption and get the big money out of Congress. There is a plan to do exactly that. It requires action. Local action, as it were. There is a saying. All politics is local. Ever hear it?

I'm about to tie that in. Read on.

Congress is not going to vote to get the big money out of Congress because Congress is on the take. It seems like an impasse. Local action is the way around it. Congress has to be replaced with anti-corruption candidates that we have to elect. Where are these candidates going to come from? Big money funds campaigns. But big money doesn't vote. People vote. The money can do nothing more than buy PR to get votes. There are other ways people find out about things. Word of mouth. Social media. Rumors. That can be a powerful tool. It can get votes, too. It just did.

The challenge becomes how to use word of mouth and social media to get votes. Trump used fear and lies, created a cult. Lies travel 30 times faster than the truth, but the truth does travel. The truth is: everybody knows big money runs everything, but they don't think anything can be done about it. That political climate has to be changed. We can do that. Local action can do that.

So what's it going to be, America? Are we going to sit on our asses and watch our nation go down the tubes or are we going to realize it is time to act to save the American Dream of representative government. Now is the time.

Get involved. Be part of the change. Get those resolutions passed. Spread the word. Let's create the political climate which allows better candidate choices to run and win. All politics is local. This is what you can do for your country. This is the answer to JFK's famous question. The founders did what they could do while they were alive. The work of building America is not done. Now it is our turn to do something. This is our civic duty.
It's a good thing you don't post such messages on a regular basis.
You wouldn't have any time to anything else. I guess you work a swing or midnight shift. Or use your government pandemic money to enjoy your time on the couch thinking of clever things to write about.
You're right about this one:"But big money doesn't vote. People vote. The money can do nothing more than buy PR to get votes."
Kamala's campaign spent over a billion dollars for her to win.
What did all of that campaign money from desperate donors and hopeful PACs get her? A whole lot of nothing and deeper in debt.
Here' another one from you which I like:
"election after election goes by and worse and worse people are getting elected. This most recent one appears to be poised to do serious damage to our government, if not rip it to shreds."
Are you talking about Obama, Biden, or Trump 1.0?
You haven't seen what Trump 2.0 looks like but you're ready to condemn that Administration before it starts?
I guess that's what Liberals/Progressives do when they lose in an election that was run fairly and squarely without any contention as to the outcome.

I could go on and on about some of your comments.
The bottom line is on one was completely satisfied with Trump, Biden, or Kamala running for president. I voted for Nikki Haley this time. Biden should have quit early. There should have been a Dems open convention. And Nikki Haley should have been the GOP nominee. Now we have to settle for the people's choice to see how he does this time.
Like the Rolling Stone's song: "You can't always get what you want".

The irony is in suggesting local action to fight corruption in Congress. "Everything's local" is where such an adventure must begin. If your local mayor and city council are corrupt, you need to vote them out first.

I grew up in Chicago under Richard J. Daly. Corruption was baked in. It's how the city worked. I hear his son actually cleaned it up, but that's just rumor.

Where I've lived my entire adult life is pretty tame. The mayors are small business owners, and the council members seem to work for their constituents. Both cities are pro-growth and willing to approve most developments, but there's no evidence of any palms getting greased.

Contrary to the beliefs of some, "big money" doesn't control everything. And there are lobbying groups that represent everyone and others you've never heard of. Rather than push an esoteric anti-corruption petition, writing letters to your representatives would have much greater effect.

How are you feeling 2 weeks after election day?

The same way I felt two weeks before election day; I really need to clean my rain gutters and move my patio furniture into the garage.

If you want to talk about someone's comments, that's one thing. That's reasonable conversation. Trying to make it about the other person is unacceptable. That's just ad hominem.

People resort to that when they are caught up in an irrational argument. It's an immature way to debate. It amounts to leaving the subject matter behind and hoping to upset the apple cart with a giant distraction. "Oh, I know. Let's put the other person on the defensive." Standard ploy when attempting to pursue a lame argument.

Busted.

Not taking the bait. And certainly not going to attempt to pursue an intellectual discussion where there is no mutual respect. Everything else you said besides the ad hominem? Poof. Doesn't exist.

We are all either against corruption or we support it. When a view opposing corruption is made, and the person making that view is personally attacked? That's the same as being pro-corruption.

It is also anti-Constitution. The Constitution outlines a representative government of the people, not the corrupt one that only answers to big money that we have.

Sorry, but the electorate cannot bestow honor or character on a man who has neither.

I notice the right has this extreme attraction to the uses of "butt-hurt" as a catch all phrase that covers any situation for which there is no logical response.
