On the one hand, interesting to see House Republicans (rhetorically) pushing back on Trump's Social Security cuts. Obviously they know which way the wind is blowing.

On the other, this is a pathetic parody of oversight. If they want to rein in DOGE and reverse the cuts, they should do it instead of pretending via these empty theatrics.

A group of House Republicans is sounding the alarm over recent staffing cuts and plans for more cut-backs across the Social Security Administration — a target of the Department of Government Efficiency’s rampage across the federal bureaucracy.

In a new letter to President Donald Trump’s newly-confirmed social security chief, Rep. Nicole Malliotokis of New York and 14 other House Republicans are pressing Frank Bisignano to hold off on any further agency cuts that could “further deteriorate customer service that has been subpar in recent years.”

The slash-and-burn DOGE effort, helmed by Elon Musk, alarmed lawmakers on Capitol Hill who faced a deluge of complaints from constituents fearful that social security services were at risk.

Warn them? Like how?

If you cut SS, I'm gonna get a lot of angry phone calls and twitter trolls and I'll be too much of a chickenshit to do townhalls, and I really like townhalls because I get free food and get to bullshit brainwashed bigoted homophobes for an hour or two.

If we don't make some serious changes in SSI, medicare then it will not be long before it will be in real trouble and to keep it will require some forced serious cuts and tax hikes.

Trump does not have to face the electorate in 2026, unlike Congress.
