House OKs $787B stimulus bill with GOP opposition


Sections are listed as "amended" and content is listed and found under the annex. But chapters and specific paragraphs are not. This is a bill, not an affidavit or court order so the amended details are not meant to be specific and require complete reading (that statement scares me). That means trying to find them by hand and reading through everything to make sure that specific wording does not allow for extra provisions, etc. Usually this is given in Word format which allows for easy searching. Unfortunately, this time around the documents were in .PDF format which makes computer searching impossible.

U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Legislative Process > Senate Legislative Process - Prime example. Here's two quoted paragraphs out of 11 pages. Go find them.

So now you have to do your research and confirm interpretations within 12hrs after release. Thats a whole lot of coffee right there.

In short, this was a poor example of transparency thats going to bite the Dems in the butt. The media is going to have to go into overtime to cover them in the future. I can only hope that the recovery which should have taken roughly 2 years won't be stalled or prolonged by this bill. Although I get the feeling that politicians will milk the "doom and gloom" for a while.

Boner and Limpbough said so, therefore it must be so. Disregarding the fact that it's been dissected by the Repubs to find their "pork" talking points... The only thing that needs to be read from the last version are the new changes. Repubs are not being truthful, as usual.
 
Who would have thought that the cheaper of the 2 stimulus bills would have been from the Democrats.....

That's what we've been asking since the Iraq Conflict began.

Like I said before, if the repubs think they can waste the surplus we had going from Clinton and turn it into the biggest national debt in the shortest period of time in our Country's history then they have nothing to bitch about when the democrats want spend money to fix what they broke and neglected.

Frankly I think the American people should not vote for a republican again until we erase the debt they created. THEN, they might get another shot at running things into the ground.

However, he never said that this could be used by the Repubs as a tactic to stall things. 'Oh, someone changed a punctuation mark so we need to repost it and reread it', for another 5 days... rinse, repeat.

The Bill has been gone over with a fine tooth comb and the only thing that needs reading are the changes. The changes are not all 1100 pages... sounds like the repubs are the liars. But who's surprised...

Widely seen? How wide is wide, because I see polls showing near 70% support for it. Basically, little more than the Bush base is against it.

That's what the American people voted repubs out of office for, eh? So that the remaining repubs could block what the President they just elected wants to do... cons never learn.

A ten year stimulus package is an oxymoron.

Can you explain the difference? The money has to go into the pockets of someone who will in turn spend it thus stimulating the economy.
