We're not talking about leverage, we're talking about a huge ass bill being squeezed through without even a vote! :doh
If you support this, then you should support the republicans using this process with every single fcking bill, because their going to do that after they take back the house and the senate.
And well they might.
BUT for the two years 2010 - 2012 I doubt they can get the President to sign whatever they pass.
The right-wing came up with the word RINO to describe these people on their side.
I propose liberals adopt "DINO."
Edit: I'm still confused what people are saying about this. It sounds like a vote still takes place. Am I wrong?

Yup....... total dead lock until 2012, then look out, no more governerment health care, drilling off both coasts and ANWAR, no gay marriage.... I'm sure the list will go on and on........ for years and years. You're gunna love it.
Well the scary part is that the repuclicans will just pull the same stunts...so...it will be interesting to see how the liberals role with that little twist of fate...
Hopefully they are smart enough to see this and will at least give the citizens of this country a reach around.
Oh, so breaking protocol and most probably the law is fine as long as you agree with the issue? Do you want to go on the record as saying that?
Y'know, I dont give a damn anymore, I really dont. I wish I could say I do but I just really dont. .
Emotional decisions are pretty bad ones in general. Good representing there.
Do it right or not at all.
Oh. good. as long as you don't vote, it's all cool.I've felt the pull of Anarchism in the last few years.
Oh I vote, sweetness, I voteOh. good. as long as you don't vote, it's all cool.
I would vote for a conservative of any party who ran for congressional term limits at this point in time, provided they vote on good policy. I think you hit the nail on the head.God I hope Pelosi is gone next election. She has failed on so many levels and this is just one more notch.
I'm sadly pessimistic about the future of this countries leadership. With all these life long corrupt politicians things get screwed up no matter which party is in power
I've felt the pull of Anarchism in the last few years. I want to say that it's an emotional feeling, but I cant really support that in any intellectually honest way. The more we progress, the more I feel like we arent ready for this and we need to kick it over and start again when we're more mature and able to handle things with a more mature mindset.
Passed by a full house, with a real vote. Try again.
Good. It's about time the Democrats grew some stones, kicked the Party of No out of the way and got done what needed to be done.
I see...so...thou shalt walk lockstep in line with party...no room for independent thought...
Good lord...no wonder this country is so screwed up.
It's amazing.
The Republicans have practically made up a litmus test to enter their party, but how dare those democrats do everything they can to get this 1 key piece of legislation through. THEY'RE RUINING THE COUNTRY!
I have some problems with the way some things were done, I didn't like the bribes and I still hope that they'll get taken out (though I think the whole "behind closed doors" and ramming it down our throats crap is pure BS) but when you have a piece of legislation that will help the country as much as this one will and has been this long over due, you make every push you can.
In the world of politics, threatening to not campaign for someone if they don't vote for this bill just doesn't seem controversial at all to me like some people try to make it out to be.
Article I | LII / Legal Information Institute
In order for a "Bill" to "become a Law," it "shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate" and be "presented to the President of the United States" for signature or veto. Unless a bill actually has "passed" both Houses, it cannot be presented to the president and cannot become a law.
this has nothing to do with Republican/democrat but constitutional law.
And there is a rule in the House where you can vote on a bill that also deems another bill to be passed. It's not a new rule. If anyone doesn't want it passed, then don't vote for it.
If they vote for a bill that passes another bill, does that mean that bill passed? Well, by definition, yes.
I haven't seen anyone actually give a reason as to why this can't be done. Just talking points on how they will pass it without a vote.
If you don't like how they do it then that's your problem.
