House Republicans moved on Tuesday to block Democrats from forcing votes on the Trump administration’s use of Signal, potential conflicts of interest involving Elon Musk and other controversial topics.

The move by the conference — which was approved in a 216-208 vote — marks the latest instance of Republicans using procedural rules, which govern debate for legislation, to shield President Trump.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) defended the effort shortly before its approval Tuesday, saying the conference was “using the rules of the House to prevent political hijinks and political stunts.”

Like the one we're pulling to block any investigation into trump but he failed to mention that part.

I think the GOP has turned into a criminal organization protecting their own.

If what they are doing is so right, why is the GOP not allowing the Democrats to investigate considering how much the GOP loves a good investigation.

This doesn't bother me as much as it bothers some. It's looks more and more like we're a shoe in to retake the house in Nov. 2026. All these investigations can sit idle until then and go full tilt once the new congress starts. As it is now, the dems don't have subpoena power which really limits what they can learn anyway.

The fact that Johnson is making every move possible to protect dear leader is no shock to anyone. He'll get his next time around.

What bugs me is he says he's a christian who follows god's word, the Bible. If he is a christian, that should help some folks on here to understand why I'm an atheist. In my opinion the man is evil.

I think we established long ago that any MAGA who claims to be Christian is a liar and a fake. I'm not an atheist, but I surely agree with your thought on this one.

It makes one wonder what these people are like around their own families.

Weird that the House GOP is aiding and abetting Musk's waste, fraud, and abuse.
What this administration is really doing is enriching themselves and their friends at the expense of everyone else while attacking almost every institution that says something negative about trump. He is as close to a dictator in america that I have seen in my lifetime.

Section 5 of the Resolution has nothing to do with the subject but was "added" to the resolution to change House rules regarding timing. This is a favorite deception of Mike Johnson.
Hidden somewhere deep down. :(

Exactly. Mike Johnson is an idiot, but he is a devious one. The purpose of the "addendum" is to pretend that black is not black, and one day can last a year. It's an attempt to change the rules without changing the rules.

The Rule XIII, Clause 7 creates a privileged motion: "Resolutions of inquiry" 7. A report on a resolution of inquiry addressed to the head of an executive department may be filed from the floor as privileged. If such a resolution is not reported to the House within 14 legislative days after its introduction, a motion to discharge a committee from its consideration shall be privileged." The idea is to prevent a "resolution of inquiry" from ever being answered.
