If it doesn’t prevent infection then why claim it’s roughly 95% effective?
I understand that it’s not known yet if the vaccines prevent colonization.
I will tell you this: out of about 30000 people enrolled in the vaccine arms of the studies I think only one person developed severe disease. Most people can handle a cough and sore throat for a few days, but no one wants to end up in the hospital.
Also, while there have been several reports of allergic reactions to the vaccines all people who had them recovered quickly. There will be others.
As for long term side effects Dr Fauci said its “unheard of” for vaccines to have unknown side effects that develop months to years later. I think he is a pretty smart guy. Generally I believe him until he gives me a reason not to.
Make no mistake: these vaccines are a game changer. People just have to be convinced to accept them. Vaccines not administered won’t work.
As time goes on the vaccines will improve too.

I see what you are saying. I haven’t reviewed the data in enough detail to see if they did pcr tests regularly to document infection. I will say this though: if I get this vaccine and because of it I don’t get sick from Covid then I really don’t care what my pcr test shows.
The bottom line is that I remain well BECAUSE I was vaccinated. At least it greatly increases my odds of staying well.
The chance of long term side effects is likely tiny according to the country’s top ID doc. He is the expert I would listen to here.
