The Defense Intelligence Agency told the White House what it didn’t want to hear. Soon after, the defense secretary reportedly fired the head of the DIA.

It isn’t the country’s highest profile intelligence agency, but the Pentagon has its own department focused on intelligence gathering and assessment. It’s called the Defense Intelligence Agency, and its principal responsibility is collecting information on foreign militaries’ plans and capabilities.

If the name sounds at all familiar, it’s because the DIA recently generated quite a bit of attention. Earlier this summer, Donald Trump ordered a preemptive military strike against nuclear targets in Iran, and it was a preliminary assessment from the Defense Intelligence Agency that found the airstrikes were less effective than the president claimed.

The White House desperately wanted the American public to believe the Iranian program had been “obliterated,” but the information collected by the DIA suggested the political talking points simply weren’t true.

Two months later, the head of the DIA is apparently out of a job. The Washington Post reported:

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has fired Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, the latest senior military or intelligence officer to lose his position in a wider purge of national security agencies’ top ranks, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The Post’s report, which has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News, added that the Cabinet secretary “didn’t immediately cite a reason for the dismissal other than ‘loss of confidence,’ a catchall term Hegseth has used to justify the sacking of other senior military officers this year."

That Kruse was apparently ousted on the heels of sharing inconvenient intelligence that contradicted what the president wanted to hear sends a dangerous signal to other officials across other agencies: produce intelligence that makes Trump happy, or else.

It comes against a backdrop of a larger offensive against the U.S. intelligence community. Just as notably, it’s the latest evidence of Hegseth’s ongoing Pentagon purge. Indeed, it comes just days after Gen. David Allvin, the chief of staff of the Air Force, was also shown the door.

The broader purge also includes Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh, who was both the head of U.S. Cyber Command and the director of the National Security Agency; Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Gen. James Slife, former vice chief of staff of the Air Force; Adm. Linda Fagan, the commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard; Adm. Lisa Franchetti; Lt. Gen. Jennifer Short; Lt. Gen. Joseph B. Berger III, the Army’s top military lawyer; Lt. Gen. Charles Plummer, the Air Force’s top military lawyer; and Navy Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, the only woman on NATO’s military committee.

Earlier this year, five former defense secretaries — including retired Gen. Jim Mattis, Trump’s first defense secretary — condemned the firings as “reckless.” Their joint letter, addressed to Congress, asked that the House and the Senate hold “immediate hearings to assess the national security implications” of the dismissals.

Trump's broader version of purging "Old China Hands". He's getting rid of those with experience and expertise in our military, as well as those in our security and intel agencies.

To what end? Installing trump-first suckups and yesmen will inevitably weaken the USA.

The Pentagon has fired the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, a senior defense official and a senator said on Friday, weeks after the agency drafted a preliminary report that contradicted President Trump’s contention that Iran’s nuclear sites had been “obliterated” in U.S. military strikes.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse is the latest senior Pentagon official, and the second top military intelligence official, to be removed since Mr. Trump’s return to office. Gen. Timothy D. Haugh, the head of the National Security Agency, was ousted this spring after a right-wing conspiracy theorist complained about him.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also fired Vice Adm. Nancy Lacore, who was chief of the Navy Reserve, as well as Rear Adm. Jamie Sands, a Navy SEAL officer who oversaw Naval Special Warfare Command, a Defense Department official said on Friday. The Pentagon offered no immediate explanation why.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the firing of General Kruse, who had a long career of nonpartisan service, was troubling.

“The firing of yet another senior national security official underscores the Trump administration’s dangerous habit of treating intelligence as a loyalty test rather than a safeguard for our country,” Mr. Warner said.

The Defense Intelligence Agency is in charge of collecting intelligence on foreign militaries, including the size, position and strength of their forces. The agency provides the information to the military’s combatant commands and planners at the Pentagon....

Days after U.S. military strikes hit three of Iran’s nuclear sites in June, the Defense Intelligence Agency drafted a preliminary assessment that suggested Tehran’s nuclear program was set back only by months. Reports about the assessment by CNN and The New York Times prompted a fierce backlash from the White House.

In the days that followed, the White House and senior intelligence officials tried to paint a different picture, of a more successful operation against Iran.

Mr. Warner linked Mr. Kruse’s firing directly to his agency’s assessment of that operation.

“That kind of honest, fact-based analysis is exactly what we should want from our intelligence agencies, regardless of whether it flatters the White House narrative,” Mr. Warner said. “When expertise is cast aside and intelligence is distorted or silenced, our adversaries gain the upper hand and America is left less safe.”...

It was unclear who would replace General Kruse, a 34-year Air Force veteran who had served in numerous senior intelligence jobs in Washington and overseas, including positions overseeing military intelligence operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Indo-Pacific region....

You're comparing Trump's first term to what's going on right now? That's not honest. Swing voters who don't pay attention to the news did not expect this. Not even close.

Trump's first term was horrible, no doubt.....what's going on right now is 100 times worse.
 
Good luck guyz having a free and fair election and voting in '26. It's not only the 10% hopeless ignoramuses who decided the election last year who are helpless, hopeless and numbnuts. The last free and fair election in the USA occurred last year, in 2024.

Trump will NEVER allow Democrats to regain a majority against him in either house of congress. He has the Supreme MAGA Court to back him up all the way. And the Generalissimo has his Federal LEO and LEA Goons and Thugs to implement his will against the the voting in the blue state and federal legislative districts.

In the present time the Generalissimo is trying to establish the federalized National Guard as his domestic military enforcers in the blue states and in their blue cities. Governors of blue states need to command their NG not to report to the federalized command of the Generalissimo and these blue state governors know this. Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland has said already he will do this if the Generalissimo moves against Baltimore.

There's a long and dangerous road to travel more than a year before the voting in November of 2026 during which Democratic party voter rolls in the states will be attacked without regard of the laws to include killing off mail ballots and voting machines. I reiterate, regardless of the Constitution and regardless of the laws.
