Too much of the latter, a bit of the former, with an obvious lack of respectful debate.

True or not? AND what part do YOU play in which way it goes?

What part YOU play, never mind whatabout...............

All you have to do is look at the new threads page, from the incendiary titles to the first page comments. Hyperventilating is strong in this community.

When YOU see those incendiary titles do YOU hyperventilate? And, are YOU only concerned about incendiary titles from one side or do you consider ANY criticism of Trump as being incendiary as well? Did you hyperventilate when you saw this thread?

People who support trump call facts hyperventilating when presented for our discussions.

Debates based on fact have a greater likelihood of remaining debates.
Don't you think that someone who is a practiced debater would be able to mask signs of hyperventilation while engaging in heated debate with an adversary?
Well, maybe not Pocohontas Eliz Warren.

What to Know About Hyperventilation: Causes and Treatments

Hyperventilation occurs when you start to breathe very quickly, causing an imbalance between inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide (CO2). This reduces the amount of CO2 in the body.
Low carbon dioxide levels lead to the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. This reduction in blood supply to the brain leads to symptoms like lightheadedness and tingling in the fingers. Severe hyperventilation can lead to loss of consciousness.
For some people, hyperventilation is rare. It only occurs as an occasional, panicked response to fear, stress, or a phobia.
For others, this condition occurs as a response to emotional states, such as depression, anxiety, or anger. When hyperventilation is a frequent occurrence, it’s known as hyperventilation syndrome.

Only little people use racial terms to denigrate others.

Please note, she was likely responding to lies, something I specifically mentioned as preventing debate. Lay it out hombrito.

Odd that you started this op as I noticed you hyperventilating in the thread about the Alaska summit.

2 and 3. It is possible to be heated and civil. Passionate and forceful doesn't have to be uncivil.

The majority of threads here are the result of trolls

If an op indulges in preemptive invective that uses hyperbolic language and attacks anybody on the other side, it is a troll thread.

It's just monkeys throwing poop kind of stuff.

You being the exception of course

The problems with debate today is that folks want to follow a script and don't know how to respond when the person who they are debating doesn't follow it. They second part is the inability to provide facts to back up their positions and try to win a debate on what they think is an irrefutable logic path.

When you watch Jubilee, you can see how ill-prepared the 20 are against the one. Especially with MAGA folk: they are really under prepared. Not saying there aren't liberals who are also bad at this (I can easily point them out), but by comparison, liberals tend to do better factually then MAGA does...who often start speaking quickly, not really taking breaths, get red in the face, stammer and then utterly fail. BTW, there a handful of MAGA/conservatives who can debate, but they are rare...the rest of them tend to shout over others as if volume means justification and go into hyper-talk mode.

It sort of reminds me of in retail, how you get a problem customer who has rehearsed their whole argument on the car ride over, thinks it irrefutable and gets dumbfounded when you ask for the receipt and they hand you one that's from another store....

I don't start threads for the most part. In the last one I did start, all I said was that I was back posting after many years, and that elicited a gang pile of attacks against me by authoritarian leftists

Has a debate ever changed anyone's mind?

I covered Canadian local, provincial and national politics for over 25 years. I've heard too many debates to count. I've not ever ONCE witnessed anything I could call "news"; the post event reporting is always mere review of who said what.

The truth is most voters minds are made up long before the election is called and they are competing for a mere fraction of the audience.

I have covered only ONE debate where a candidate actually announced something "new" and he was drubbed out of the race!

All debates do is try to shore up the established base and make sure they actually turn out.

Online debates are different though, they illicit a lot of ................................ hyperventilating.

Interesting observation, I only know Canadian conservatives and they are VERY VERY good at debating without hyperventilating. Can't say I have noticed the same about American conservatives.
