have you received an inheritance ?

I'm curious how many here are privileged and have what they have (or in part) because of their family/friends inheritance

I was able to get back money I had loaned my parents during their lifetimes and slightly less than $5,000 in "inheritance." Three years in the nursing home due to Parkinson's pretty much drained my mom's remaining assets.

Not an issue because I was never counting on receiving any significant amount in the first place and by that point was already significantly wealthy in my own right.

Roughly $2000 when my grandfather died when I was 12 or so

Nothing when father or mother died,

When wife and I die our son will likely get over $ 1 million depending on how long we live after retirement. His grandmother on mother's side will also likely leave him a good $500 000 or more

My siblings split what was left out of a 75k life insurance check

My parents werent poor, but they were what most people would consider lower middle class

It will be different for my kids and grandchildren.....i hope to leave a mid 7 figure nest egg that will give them a small boost up.....they wont be RICH, but they should hopefully be okay

liberals hate that concept - generation wealth is something they hate, and many people consider millions (7 figures) a f-ton of money even in 2025

Yes, though total is hard to value.

18 years of raising in a healthy, stable, two parent household where I was read to and encouraged to read.

Taught to respect others and work hard, which has gotten me a lot in life.

A year and change of college paid for - the military paid for the rest.

My first vehicle was a hand me down from my dad.

Her parents paid for a wedding and mine for some furniture when we got married as a wedding present.

When my grandparents sold their house, they gave each grandkid $10k. It is still the core of my emergency fund.

Lots of free baby sitting when our kids were little.

For a couple of months after I got out of the military, we were able to crash with parents (we were coming back from overseas and had no job / house).

Wise counsel, much love, good examples....

I've been hugely blessed in many ways by my parents and grandparents.

Yes. Because my grandfather, a ninth grade drop out, worked until he was 83 years old. He and my grandmother never owned a house. They saved so that we could thrive. I was very privileged in that regard. Were it not for them I would not have my college degree. I try to pattern my own life after them in terms of working hard, saving, and being charitable, both to family and beyond. It's a privilege to be able to give.

I received about 20k when my mom died. I used it to get out of debt from a divorce.

My husband and I helped support my MIL, who lived into her 90's, and was in nursing care for her last several years. So no inheritance there.
When my mother died she had been ill for a while, and spent time in hospice. She had lived rather simply and had no assets other than her home. We sold that and my brother and I split the proceeds. Her will indicated that she wished the money to be used for her grandchildren's education. I used my half to fund my son's college account.
