Wall Street executives are glad Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris to be his VP running mate
Financial advisory firm Signum Global is already telling its clients that the choice of Harris reinforces the notion that the Democratic ticket is more moderate than progressive.
When she ran for president last year, Harris saw contributions from executives in a wide range of industries, including film, TV, real estate and finance, according to data from the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. Her campaign finished raising close to $40 million.
Harris, who dropped out of the race in December, opened up a joint fundraising committee with the Democratic National Committee earlier this year, allowing her to raise six figure checks that mainly went to the party as a whole.
Prior to Biden’s announcement, his fundraisers were plotting a virtual fundraising blitz that is now set to feature Harris. Her addition to the ticket could help push the Biden campaign over the top in the cash race with Trump.
Last month, Biden and the Democratic National Committee combined to raise $140 million, while Trump and the Republican National Committee brought in $165 million. Biden and the DNC went into August with $295 million on hand and Trump’s team had $300 million.
Mike Kempner, the founder of public relations juggernaut, MWWPR, lauded Harris’ fundraising track record.
“She has a strong and active fundraising organization. She will be an important and immediate addition to the Biden fundraising effort. She is a fundraising star,” Kempner said.
“Our clients really wanted to know if Biden was going to stay in the center, and his pick of Harris reinforces that,” he said on Tuesday.
“Harris, who generally could be called a centrist, will not push Biden to the left or the right on major policy issues. She will be supportive of Biden and the Democratic Party’s policy platform,” the note reads.
I have mixed feelings about Harris. I was recently reminded of her perhaps most important action as CA Attorney General, soon after taking office, refusing the deal states made with Wall Street, taking a lot of criticism for it - and winning, with Wall Street giving all states a better deal. Good going.
A concern is that she has no issues with money in politics, and 'plays the game' well and shamelessly. This article discusses her as being a very good fundraiser who will help Biden with that. When I see politicians seeming to be on a 'fast track' by the party, it raises some questions. She's a first term Senator, just like Obama who was fast-tracked, and Wall Street's favorite candidate.

Harris began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected the 27th district attorney of San Francisco, serving until 2011. Harris was narrowly elected attorney general of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris faced criticism from reformers for tough-on-crime policies she pursued while she was California's attorney general.

You'd think she'd be popular with Trump supporters too.
Why don't Trump supporters like her?

She smiles too much. I don't like people who smile too much.
Biden said **** you to the Bernie Bros, Bloomberg, and everybody else who could help him. Of course he had no choice but to sell the slot to Wall Street. He is out of deep pocket friends.
a terrible trait to have; especially for a politician
wonder if your students have adopted such a fine political barometer for themselves to use
I find it hilarious that Wall Street typically reacts more positively to Rep prez wins than Dems when they don't do any better under Reps than under Dems. Same with business profit. Hilarious.

Ah right, so it was all about keeping the donors happy and getting more money...
You literally couldn't have said anything that would make me despise a Biden-Harris ticket more...
As long as you understand it's far, far better than trump/Republicans.
Look at as, Wall Street thinks the Democrat will win - and so they're happy to have the Democrat be one seen as friendlier to them instead of a progressive who wants to go to war with them.
When Wall street benefits from both candidates winning, the American people will lose whoever they vote for.
All you are getting with the democrats is a black VP who can become president if Biden dies and can then order the police and army to shoot black protesters when they start rioting about being unemployed, homeless and not able to get welfare so democrats can keep wall street happy.
But I’m sure African Americans will line up to vote Biden because the threshold for “hope and change” is he has a black friend.
The D are always fighting the lie from the lying Cons calling them Marxist. Harris is clearly not that. So, in that sense, I can see why Wall Street is relieved. She's not risky. Liz would have been risky...but maybe better in some ways. However, she is old. Harris is not.I have mixed feelings about Harris. Biden VP aren't Bernie, plutocracy does win when 'both candidates are plutocrats' which is how they rig the system; dictatorship tend to be about keeping one person or family in power, while plutocracies are about keeping any politician who will serve plutocracy in power. Free choice - from the approved list of candidates who can raise billions, get media coverage, etc.
But you misrepresent Biden/Harris as less different than trump than they are. They are hugely different, and while you could call them 'plutocrat light' in comparison, they are hugely better than Republicans. There's a third party blind partisan desire to equate the two main parties, and while it's not entirely wrong, it's mostly wrong.

Well, she's a "Marxist" one minute or a Wall St. tool the next. Republicans have no problem talking out of both sides of their mouths at the same time.
