I'm the kind of person who's always been driven by curiosity, often finding myself caught in the endless loop of Google searches for the most random and diverse topics throughout the day. But then, I discovered Grok. This tool has completely changed how I seek information. No more endless scrolling through ads and repeated results, or digging through irrelevant data to find the nugget of truth I need. With Grok, I just ask, and it delivers, weaving web search seamlessly into its answers, complete with citations that let me dig deeper or check facts when I want to. It's like having a research assistant that understands documents, images, and even helps manage my tasks, all without costing me a dime. Ever since I've embraced Grok, I've left Google behind, and honestly, I can't imagine going back. It feels like I've found a friend in my quest for knowledge.(I often find myself thinking of C3PO) :)

Is anyone else finding Grok more useful than google?

Never heard of it prior to this thread. Sooo, no as I've never used it, I can't compare or contrast.

I'd have to Google Grok.

Wait, I found it.

See post #2.

You can do the same thing with copilot or Gemini.

AI chatbots shouldn't be treated as alternatives to search engines. The process of filtering search results to find valid answers to whatever you're searching for is a vital part of the process (albeit one many companies are actively trying to discourage people from doing). You can't replace that human step with automation, even using AI. Chatbot results aren't removing the false and irrelevant information or even all of the advertising, because they pull their results from all of that without the filtering step. The problem is that they merge all of the facts, misinformation, lies and propaganda in to a single answer. Grok itself has examples of producing entirely false information (in great part because it's primary source is X), such as blindly including existing misinformation or satire out of context.

AI chatbots are impressive technology and have some potential for practical applications, but they are new and different to anything we've previously used and shouldn't be seen as a direct replacement for anything. I like all technology, it is also vital to understand and account for it's flaws and limitations (just like human beings for that matter).

Never heard of it.

On the other hand, I haven't used Google in decades so I don't care if it dies.

Okay...I went to the website to look at it. This is what I found.

No thanks. I don't have an X account and don't want one.

I'll pass. I'll keep using DuckDuckGo as my main search engine.

Explains everything.. Is it that kick of destiny thing? Wait, that's....
Thanks for you excellent comment, we're all lucky you contributed and look forward to more of your brilliance in this or any thread. In case you decide to limit our exposure to shield us for too much of a good thing I'll wish you a Merry Christmas now.

I have tried switching to DuckDuckGo a few times attempting to find something better but it wasn't long before I would drift back for one reason or another. I'm sure that other AI system out there are similar to Grok but I don't know if any of them have the same privacy goals as DuckDuckGo.

Gemini does the same thing.
CoPilot (Microsoft) I consider useless because it spends more time NOT answering questions than answering.
Ask CoPilot anything that is controversial, and you will get back a response telling you it isn't allowed to answer that. Useless.

Is this forum just a platform for you to make snide remarks? There are healthier ways to address your issues, and they're free for anyone who's taken the crucial first step of admitting there's a problem. If you're interested in getting some help, feel free to DM me for more information.

Here's what Grok says about Elon:

In fact, even his own AI company's chatbot Grok — which Musk himself has branded as a brash truth-teller — has a pretty good grasp on the situation.

"Yes, there is substantial evidence and analysis suggesting that Elon Musk has spread misinformation on various topics, including elections, to a very large audience through his social media platform, X," Grok responded when asked if "Elon Musk spread misinformation to billions of people."

"Musk's posts related to elections, which have contained misleading or false claims, have amassed billions of views," Grok wrote. "Musk has shared manipulated videos and debunked claims about voting processes, including allegations about non-citizen voting, which are common themes in misinformation narratives."

Case in point, less than a day after Musk cosigned a meme that called people who "still believe everything shown in [sic] news" dumb, he shared a video that purportedly showed "armed communist Maduro gangs... storming polling stations in Punta Cardón," Venezuela.

As many users quickly pointed out, the video actually showed thieves attempting to steal air conditioners.

Maybe Grok is a good thing.

People that don’t know how to write solid Boolean search phrases would likely prefer AI chat for simplicity.

Not surprising

🤷‍♀️
AI chat isn't just for those who can't handle Boolean searches; it's a time-saver for everyone, evern for an obvious high level genius like yourself.
On a more serious note If you were to ask Grok for help with your 'issues' you might be surprised how helpful it is. That said, you have to take the first step and admit your problem before progress is made. Good luck and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

You would be surprised what you can do with google if you use their search key words.

LLMs like CoPilot solve a different problem though and that is the synthesis of a result from different websites. That could be good or bad since it removes a crucial step for human evaluation.

I’ve been using both techniques for a while now. I haven’t played with Gemini much, admittedly.

I use DuckDuckGo for my searches. The only thing I still use Google for is gmail, maps and translate.

One teeny tiny important detail missing from your prediction.

Google Gemini has been around for a year now and is integrated into Google Search.

Any Google search results in AI responses. The responses include links so results can be verified to original sources (important because AI still returns errors).

Google is way ahead of Grok both in terms of a headstart and computing power, including the world's most advanced Quantum Computer. Their competition is Apple, not Elmo.

Thanks for the first useful reply on this thread. You have saved me from wasting time with CoPilot. lol I'll give Gemini a try.

I don’t see anyone talking about ChatGPT. It is probably the most advanced and impressive AI out there.

Also Claude.

My work MacBook just got updated and is offering Apple intelligence but I haven’t tried it yet.

ChatGPT, at least the last time I checked, isn’t attached to a RAG, which makes it useless for real time searches.

For those who really want to have fun with this stuff, check out this program (you will want to have a nvidia rtx card or better if you do)

I'll give Gemini a try.
You've likely already used Gemini if you use Google search.

This is what Gemini results look like when asked what is the most visited city:

A sincere thank you for your insightful comment. On a related note, I'm curious - does CoPilot offer straightforward access to the websites it uses to compile its answers?

I use Gemini almost everyday when researching something I want to say here. I have never once copied and pasted what it says, rather I use the data it gives me to make a point.
For instance in how Obama did not "save the economy" - he rewarded the rich.
2008-2014 were some of the worst times economically in American history. Yet, directly due to TARP - the very same institutions that CAUSED the crises made record profits during a time when the rest of America was suffering terribly.
