And now the cartels have brought the fight to us: In 230 U.S. cities, the Mexican organizations maintain distribution hubs or supply drugs to local distributors, according to the Justice Department's National Drug Intelligence Center.

So what is the proper response to the cartels bringing their violence onto US soil?
 
End the Drug War.

It's that simple.

Just like the end of Prohibition castrated the gangs under the likes of Al Capone, ending the Drug War (which is nothing more than modern prohibition) will do the same to the current drug cartels.
