A states can cede territory to another state, but it requires the consent of the legislatures of both states as well as Congress.

There aren't enough people in eastern Oregon to get their wish. If they had the courage of their convictions, they'd move to Idaho. What they don't recognize is that the rural issues they face in eastern Oregon are the same in Idaho. Idaho is experiencing the same challenges funding health care, transportation, education as other states and there is debate within Idaho about whether it is financially prudent to add more stress to their already stressed resources.

These whack jobs from Eastern Oregon have been pulling this “move the border” nonsense for as long as I traveled the state on business, and that was over 13 years ago. I read about it in the local news way back then. They can’t get anything done through normal democratic means (candidates, votes, and organization) with the population mainly in the western part of the state, so they want to take the backdoor on over to Idaho without actually moving there. That’s the key- they don’t want to leave to get what they want in state government.

It is, but you’ve got more populous places like Spokane, the Tri-Cities, and Walla Walla in Eastern Washington. There just isn’t much in Eastern Oregon in the way of population.

Washington and Oregon are both fascinating states, in my opinion, justabubba. I loved learning about the diverse agriculture in both places. Especially in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. If I had to uproot and move somewhere completely different, I would love either central Washington or western Oregon.

I’m just a hard liner when it comes to this Eastern Oregon joining Idaho stuff. The chances of that happening are basically zero, but the crusade to do so apparently remains.

This is going nowhere, because: Whiny-ass right-wing Oregonians are free to leave.

Oregon had a taste of these people several years ago when they invaded the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. They were a completely disorganized, unprepared, undisciplined, destructive, dirty, and totally incapable of governing themselves. Even if states would grant them land Greater Idaho would end in disaster. They are not smart enough to govern intelligently.

Because "the state" has no right to keep people hostage against their will. Why should have Great Britain given up Canada, Australia, India etc? because it was the right of people to self-determination.

Now I agree that most authoritarian and totalitarian states are loath to give up empire - ask the Hapsburgs or Ancient Romans. But if the declaration of independence means anything it is that to the extent practical, self-rule is better than colonial rule unless those folk wishes to remain a part of a state.

If folks in Idaho and Oregon wish to merge, who is to say anyone owns them?
