Government computers used to find information on Joe the Plumber

Isaac Baker, Obama's Ohio spokesman, denounced Lindsay's statement as charges of desperation from a campaign running out of time. "Invasions of privacy should not be tolerated. If these records were accessed inappropriately, it had nothing to do with our campaign and should be investigated fully," he said.

The attorney general's office is investigating if the access of Wuzelbacher's BMV information through the office's Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway computer system was unauthorized, said spokeswoman Jennifer Brindisi.

"We're trying to pinpoint where it came from," she said. The investigation could become "criminal in nature," she said. Brindisi would not identify the account that pulled the information on Oct. 16.

Records show it was a "test account" assigned to the information technology section of the attorney general's office, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Thomas Hunter.

Wow, an abuse of power agains a civillian. Right or left. Things like this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The State Highway Patrol, which administers the Law Enforcement Automated Data System in Ohio, asked Toledo police to explain why it pulled BMV information on Wurzelbacher within 48 hours of the debate, Hunter said.

Heads need to roll.

Sounds like they can track back to exactly who accessed the info. Consequences will be forthcoming I'm sure

This is one of the things I'm very distrusting with government on. Of course they do this, and if a poor individual dare speak up well they are going to have the brunt of the government brought down on them. What the hell is the message of that? Fear the government.

“When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.” –Thomas Jefferson

Do you think Joe has something to hide, RHH?

I think your question is irrellevant. this is not canada. here in the us, using government computers to access private information then disseminating that information is a crime and rightfully so.

Yeah but if he has nothing to hide, what's the big deal?

it is sad that you think that.

so you wouldn't mind a government camera in your home either then?

Well tell me then, RHH... how do you feel about your government spying on you? It's come to light that they've been spying on y'all for a while now. Are you against that too?

I'd be willing to bet it was some lowly someone who does data entry getting overly curious.

Pffffftttttt. Boring who cares thread! Big deal. If he's got nothing to hide then who cares.

Because there is no such thing as having nothing to hide - we all have a private life, things we keep to ourselves, good, bad, or otherwise. The very idea of a private life is that we have something to hide - not bad or wrong, just something. Why is that hard for people to grasp, and why should the govt. have the right to ignore this blatant, sacred fact?

Did you lose interest in this thread, RHH? I would really like for you to respond to my previous post.

this is a privacy act violation thread.

you like most leftists want to throw red herrings to avoid the discussion.

I am not aware of the government spying on me. if you think they are get your little links together and start a thread on it in the conspiracy bunk forums. :2wave:

My lord, if you're not aware of the government spying on you, then you're not up to speed on the news. Maybe you should change your news source? Then again, I think maybe you do know? When the news broke out about the NSA spying program, I can remember you using the same argument as I did in this thread. I could be wrong, but I can always dig it up to make sure. ;-)

And my point is pretty much the same as yours. At least your opinion about Joe's privacy being infringed upon. I don't think it's right. This should not have happened to Joe, nor ANY OTHER AMERICAN CITIZEN.

Yeah, each topic on govt. spying on citizens in a means outside of its power or authority has to be a conspiracy.

If you have nothing to hide, why be spied on in the first place?

The government doesn't need this much power.

Hang on, Reverend. Don't go this partisan route. I'm a leftist and I agree with you 100%. Whoever did this should be prosecuted, regardless of political affiliation. Further, even though I have nothing to hide, I still don't want the government peeking in every aspect of my life.

So, do you want to rethink your "leftist" comment? ;)

wrong on all accounts. you make a lot of wrong assumptions about be and the so called "NSA SPYING PROGRAM".....

Now you could ask me about CARNIVORE and I would tell you I am against it. but this magical NSA SPYING PROGRAM spying on me, you have yet to prove this.

I agree.... what position did you misapropriate to me?

It's shocking that you know nothing about this.

I did a google search for "NSA data mining" and you can get a zillion hits for how your government is listening in to your phone calls. Here, NSA data mining - Google Search ... enjoy this orgy of information. And now that I know you're pro privacy, I bet you'll be pissed at Bush et. al..

I think the NSA should be shut down. They do data mine, like no one's business; the government loves data mining and data basing. I don't think they should be allowed to do it as they see fit.

Then again, I also think the ATF should be turned into a store.

You can't ask that question! Only the conservatives can ask that question. Don't you recall all of the "if ya ain't got nuttin ta hide then who cares if the President listens to you telling your neighbor about grannys apple pie recipe? I got nuttin ta hide so we needs ta do what we needs ta do as long as we git thems terrorists". :stop:

I think this is just another sign our government is totally inefficient. If a government was spying on its citizenry properly, they would never know about it.
