GOPers, tell me why you would be upset if the Dems packed the court if they win control of congress and the Presidency?

Yeah, I'm with you. In fact, why the **** do Repug voters even care? What do they get out of all of this? I mean, they don't get a government that actually ****ing works.

Do they get some perverse please in seeing the U.S. become a Third World country that can't even provide basic services to its citizens? Is that the Tea Party utopia these dumb ****s want??

It just confirms that sticking it to liberals and hating minorities is really what gets these demented ****s hard every day.

Completely false and naive. Republicans have made the courts entirely into a political weapon, creating an army of groomed legal people to pack the courts with, who will use a radical ideology to destroy our laws and constitution. Barrett is exactly one of those radical ideologues who is at war with the constitution on behalf of wealthy plutocrats. Democrats should absolutely use the legal means to fight back including adding Justices.

It's court reform not court packing. Reform and curbing the power that the supreme court has imposed upon itself that must take place. Conservative radical right groups have too often
gone to the Supreme Court instead of taking care of business in the legislature. It's time to rehabilitate the system.

Call it court stuffing if you want.

Court tyranny.

Court totalitarianism.

Conservatives can give it any label they like.

Americans are getting fatter, so they need a fatter Court.

Whichever reason pleases you, go with it.

If the Democrats control Congress and the presidency, it will happen.

Democrats will tyrannically, Marxist-ly triple stuff the totalitarian Court--or whatever. I can't fit socialism or communism into the description. It's already overstuffed and nonsensical.

Rush will have a better description for them in early November. Something catchy that incites incoherent rage and wifebeating.

Several decisions by this conservative Court need immediately reversal, and that will happen, too.

"Spoiled brats"? "Do as the GOP doid? REALY?

Mitch McConnell has put himself above the people, the President and the law and you want to talk about spoiled brats? At first Mr. Moscow, with nearly a year to go before the 16 election wouldn't consider President Obama's nominee because it was an election year. Then this election year changed his tune to "it's the Senate's Constitutional responsibility to seat Supreme Court vacancies.

WELL, it Congress's Constitutional responsibility yo determine the appropriate number of Supreme Court Justices. I shouldn't be up to one unelected oraganization to pick our Supreme Court Justices.

Mitch is a sellout to the plutocrats and a traitor to our nation, anything he's done while leading the Senate should be undone.

I'm not GOP and I certainly don't agree with packing the courts. You shouldn't be able to have a tantrum and change everything just because you didn't get your way. I may not agree with the GOP and their followers but they do make up a big part of this country. I'm getting kind of tired of both sides thinking they have the right to control and dictate how the country is supposed to be.

Well the democrats will be justified in whatever they decide to do.

Personally what I would like to see happen is:

Appoint enough new Supreme Court justices with a liberal mindset to offset the right wing ones and add a couple to give us a majority

Reapportion the senate where we never get another mitch

Review all trump court appointments and find a path to nullify them

Find a path to direct states to correct gerrymandering

Study republican voter suppression and pass legislation to stop it.

Get rid of the electoral college

Seek every way possible to make it more difficult for Republicans to be elected.

Then we get to all the important stuff. They have to hustle. They could only have a majority for 2 years.

Something a lot “conservatives” are likely to learn soon is that we stopped giving a crap what the shrinking minority in this country thinks.

Read it yourself. First you said that conservative judges sometimes turn liberal. Then you said Liberal judges never do that, which could mean they do not turn liberal.

obviously I meant that unlike conservative judges, liberal judges never (or very rarely) change their judicial beliefs the opposite way. i.e. liberal judges do not (or very rarely) turn conservative.

I cannot believe you didn't know what I was meaning.

The number of supreme court justices was raised from 7 to 9 back in the 1800s.

9 seems fine to me. Maybe we should see how the SC decides on cases before we go tinkering. They've surprised me already by putting gays under the Equal Opportunity Act.

These right-wing activist justices are not to be trusted. Remember, gay marriage was a 5-4 decision, and that was with RBG on the court.

Besides, the justices and federal judges are overworked. The benches need to be expanded to lessen individual judges' workloads.

No but it’s a stupid idea nonetheless. Because if the Democrats do it then the Republicans will when they get a chance and so on. The end result would be a court that’s essentially another Congress.

Rethuglicans have already made SCOTUS into "another Congress." It's time to rebalance the courts.

That's because reality has a well-known liberal bias.

I don’t care for McConnells tactics but based on voting records the court is currently centrist.
Both Goresuch and Kanvangh (as well as Roberts) have Martin-Quinn score close to 0 (Neither liberal nor conservative). Even if ACB’s votes tack conservatively on balance the court will likely still be pretty close to the middle as it usually is.

Wow

If that is centrist then you must be an off the page rightie

Martin Quinn rates justices based on their actual voting records not their professed or presumed policial leanings. It is the most widely used metric for rating judicial voting records. You don’t like the result take it up with them. The reality is most courts are much closer to the center than most people assume.

You dp remember that the GOP and Trump had total control for two years and the only thing they did was pass a huge tax cut for the wealthy. REMEMBER? And where is the great health care bill the GOP has been telling us about for 10 years. So, not propaganda, just the truth.

This whole fiasco is the result of the corrupt 2-party system, and another proof positive of the negative effect caustic partisan politics has on our nation. Wake up people...

Excellent! Well Done.

The problem with statements like that is that they presume that if the Dems play nice, the GOP won't do whatever dirty thing it can when it gets power again. History proves that wrong. The GOP cheats whenever it can, so "they'll get you back" is hardly a threat.

Yep. Obama played nice in 2016 and see what happened. He should have been more forceful. Dems seriously need to grow a pair. Add DC and PR as states. Maybe guam and american samoa too. Stack the courts. Abolish the Electoral college.

I did, that part was supposed to be a joke. It comes from having a english major as a wife. I guess to everyone right now, nothing is funny.

The present make up of the SCOTUS is no where near the center. Barrett is a reactionary and will drag the court so far to the right, we will not recognize it. Many Americans have less and less belief in the court to define the meaning of the constitution and more as just another arm of the GOP.

Exactly. Repugs are going to cheat in the future no matter what. What Democrats do 3 months from now when they have power is not going to have ANY effect on what Repug fascists do in the future.

If the Dems don't expand the court, I'll actually be surprised if the GOP fails to expand it themselves and cite as justification mere talk from Democrats about maybe doing so.

It's what they did with Garland. "Biden said something decades ago about when not to confirm justices and we're just following his lead, not stealing a seat!" Sure, the dems never actually did what he was talking about, but no matter. He said it.
