It looks like Trump picked the wrong hill to die on. The majority of his supporters are in favour of the tariffs but a concerning number are opposed.

President Donald Trump’s disruptive trade policies are threatening to alienate a significant tranche of his own voters, a major red flag for Republicans going into 2026.

A new POLITICO-Public First poll conducted last month found between a quarter and nearly half of people who voted for Trump in 2024 have doubts about various elements of his tariff policies, especially around his approach to China.

Everything coming out of the media about tariffs is almost all negative.

In spite of that between 50-75% of Trump voters don't have doubts right?

Just half of Trump voters surveyed believe his tariffs on the world’s second-largest economy would benefit American companies — a core premise of the president’s protectionist trade agenda.

The dissent among MAGAs will rise with consumer prices, shortages, and company hardships/layoffs.

Why would Trump give a s&%t now?

Hmmm, maybe because it could mean Congresspeople who allow him to get away with anything right now might become the minority after the Mid-Terms. 🤷‍♂️

It was an online survey. Who the hell takes online surveys. They also won't release the questions. How you ask a question can influence the answer you get.

Huh. A libertarian in favor of tariffs. Fascinating.

I think the results of the survey are too low. It's probably more like 75%.
You'll still be paying higher prices.

What kind of total idiot kills the labor market AND THEN puts tariffs on the BACKUP plan (you know, where we get the produce from other countries since we can't produce here anymore due to the labor shortage)?

He's a moron.

Most businesses tend to lean Republican at a leadership level and certainly Wall Street tends to lean Republican. They understand first hand the impacts of tariffs and for the most part see them as harmful. It's almost impossible for them to plan in this chaotic environment.

The environment is also prohibitive for capital investment.

Who would build a factory in a country where construction costs just went up 30% and anything assembled is going to be impacted by supply chain disruptions and raw materials costs up by 30%?

Trump is accelerating the practice of moving manufacturing out of the US. Canada and other countries have an opportunity to benefit from the trend.
