ohhh, how far the republicans have fallen.

Republican strategists are worried that if former President Trump doesn’t secure the GOP’s presidential nomination next year, or if he is kept off the ballot because of his mounting legal problems, it could spell a voter turnout disaster for their party in 2024.

GOP strategists say there’s growing concern that if Trump is not the nominee, many of his core supporters, who are estimated to make up 25 percent to 35 percent of the party base, “will take their ball and go home.”

“The conventional wisdom is there’s concern that if Trump’s not the nominee, his coalition will take their ball and go home,” said Matt Dole, a Republican strategist based in Ohio, where Republicans are targeting vulnerable Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.

MAGA existing is a disaster for the Republicans. Whether they turn out or stay home doesn't really matter, it's still a disaster.

It's a turnout disaster either way...

If FPOTUS#45 is not on the ballot, GOP voters will stay home.

If FPOTUS#45 is on the ballot, DEM and Independent voters will come out in droves like they/we did in 2020.

It's the GOP version of Kobayashi Maru.

If Trump is not on the ballot, there will likely be less turnout on all sides. Biden got more votes than anyone in history because millions were voting against Trump, not for Biden.

I agree. In both cases turnout will be lower, but the DEMs will have abortion as a motivating factor.

Dude is pretty old, so this risk may be realized one way or another.

The GOP needs to know that regardless of who they run in 2024, the election has already been rigged. There will be massive fraud committed by the Globalists, the dishonest MSM, the corrupt DOJ and FBI, and East Coast Elites and corrupted Election Officials.

Why do you think republican politicians are always defending him? They know he is a piece of shit but to keep their job they have to have that maga vote.

Without trump on the ticket how many of these white trash rednecks will crawl back under the rock they came from?

Nope. I assume you were being sarcastic. If not that statement is parody come to life.

While that is true of the MAGA crowd I think the Republicans in swing districts or districts Biden won who are very worried about down ballot voting with Trump on the ticket. I thin k that that and their abysmal performance in Congress have them very concerned of losing their majority.

It is a reasonable concern. Anyone with an IQ above their shoe size can deduce that Trump's stronghold over the Republican base means that if he is not their nominee then they will have issues convincing their voters to vote for one of the other hopefuls. From a political strategist perspective, they also have to realize that since the majority of the nation is none too pleased with the status of our political climate today. Meaning that between the Republican base being behind Trump yet the majority of independents and moderates not happy with Biden or Trump we may see a low voter turnout anyway. There is little positive about any of this suggesting the only plausible path to winning for anyone is to ensure everyone is that much more disgusted with the other guy.

indeed! they are hanging on to him until he's no longer in the race. After that, the whole "election fraud" thing will be swept under the rug.

More projection and lies.

The MSM propaganda is a disaster.

Don’t be fooled.

Trump is fine.

You cannot trust ANYONE OR ANYTHING. Only Trump is to be believed. He, and he alone, can fix it. Anyone who speaks out against Trump, whether it be a newspaper, a news commentary show, a judge, a prosecutor, a political rival, a librarian, a doctor, a former Trump staffer or cabinet member, or a Gold Star widow, they must all be destroyed, for they all conspire to take down the greatest man in the history of the universe! [/SARCASM]

Problem is that might lower Dem turnout as well. They were highly motivated in 2020, but who knows after the dragon has been slain...

I don't think so, at all. The problem with Democrats isn't Trump anymore, it is much broader - the attack on women and minorities and pro-fascist ideology. Dobbs is a bigger motivator than Trump for both Democrats and Independents. To wit: Kansas, Kentucky and Montana, and now Ohio.

Ohio Vote Shows Abortion’s Potency to Reshape Elections (NYT);

A Winning Streak (NYT)

Next up: the Sun Belt

Here’s a state-by-state breakdown for 2024 and beyond:
  • The effort in Florida, where DeSantis signed a six-week abortion ban in April, is the furthest along. Organizers are on track to gather more than enough signatures to place the measure on the ballot next year. The measure would amend the state’s Constitution to legalize abortion until fetal viability (typically around 23 weeks of pregnancy) or later if the mother’s health is in danger. Florida law requires all citizen-initiated constitutional amendments to receive 60 percent of the popular vote to pass.
  • In Arizona, abortion-rights groups released their proposed constitutional amendment yesterday, and it is similar to Florida’s. Legal challenges and an expensive drive to collect signatures are likely, but advocates are optimistic. Chris Love, an official with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, told us that advocates conducted polls to determine which version of an initiative would have the best chance of passing. “We wanted to see where our electorate was,” she said.
  • In Missouri, advocates have filed multiple versions of a potential constitutional amendment. Republican officials are analyzing those versions slowly, seemingly in an attempt to keep the issue off the ballot next year.
  • In South Dakota, which has a near-total abortion ban, a local group has proposed a measure that would prohibit any restrictions during the first trimester (through about 13 weeks of pregnancy). But the local Planned Parenthood affiliate doesn’t support the measure, believing it does not go far enough.
  • Efforts have made relatively little progress in Arkansas, Nebraska, North Dakota or Oklahoma. The same is true in Montana, although abortion remains legal there, despite state officials’ attempts to restrict it.
The campaigns in Arizona and Florida are worth watching for reasons beyond abortion policy. Democrats hope that the excitement over the initiatives could lift President Biden’s re-election chances in both states and play a role in Arizona’s Senate race.

Not sure about that. I think the vast majority of Democrats are pretty disgusted in general with all of the Trump ass-sucking misfits and freaks in the Repug Party, especially after the Dobbs abortion decision last year.

I think Democratic turnout will be pretty high without Trump on the ballot.

Not only is it a turnout disaster, Trump is sucking up all the donors and using that money to pay for his defense. His "campaign" spent 90 million dollars last quarter, and a third (at least) went to paying for lawyers. State parties are in financial difficulty because there is no money left over for their coffers.

The Quiet Collapse of Four Key State Republican Parties (National Review)

"The seemingly frozen-in-amber GOP presidential primary is getting most of the attention and headlines, but under the radar, in at least a quartet of key states, the state Republican parties are collapsing — going broke and devolving into infighting little fiefdoms. Even worse for the GOP, these aren’t just any states — Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, and Minnesota all rank as either key swing states or once-purple states that would be tantalizing targets in a good year. Meanwhile, the Georgia state Republican Party is spending a small fortune on the legal fees of those “alternate” Republican electors from the 2020 presidential election. If Republicans are disappointed with the results of the 2024 elections — for the fourth straight cycle, mind you — a key factor will be the replacement of competent, boring, regular state-party officials with quite exciting, blustering nutjobs who have little or no interest in the basics of successfully managing a state party or the basic blocking and tackling involved in helping GOP candidates win elections.

Crumbling State Republican Parties

When a political party adopts a mindset that prioritizes loyalty to a particular figure — in this case, Donald Trump — over all other traits, eventually it tends to run low on those other traits. We see the consequences of this mentality in the condition of several state Republican parties."

Yes I would also hope they wake up and start voting on issues. They have to know the Republicans are dead set on removing many hard won rights. They need to realize it's not just about who the president is.
