GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger: 'My party has utterly failed the American people at truth'

6.19.22
GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans in the Jan. 6 committee, said on Sunday that former President Donald Trump "knew what he was doing" ahead of the Capitol insurrection and his party has failed "at truth." In an interview with ABC's "This Week," when asked if he thinks Trump should be prosecuted, Kinzinger told host George Stephanopoulos, "I certainly think the president is guilty of knowing what he did, seditious conspiracy, being involved in these, you know, kind of different segments of pressuring the DOJ, vice president, et cetera." "Unfortunately, my party has utterly failed the American people at truth. It makes me sad, but it's a fact," Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the Jan 6. committee, said. Kinzinger has charged that Trump knew he lost the 2020 presidential election ahead of the Capitol riot. "The president absolutely tried to overthrow the will of the people and he tried to do it initially through misinformation, through the Department of Justice, through pressuring the Vice President, and then on January 6."

According to a new Ipsos/ABC News poll, a majority of Americans Trump say should be criminally charged for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. "Obviously, you know, we're not a criminal charges committee. So I want to be careful and specifically using that language," Kinzinger said Sunday. "But I think what we're presenting before the American people certainly would rise to a level of criminal involvement by a president and definitely failure of the oath has to matter here, your personal demand to stand for the Constitution has to matter."

USAF Lieutenant Colonel Adam Kinzinger was elected in 2010 to the U.S. House (IL/R) on the Tea Party ticket.

Disillusioned by what the Republican Party has become, Kinzinger declined to seek reelection.

I like Rep Kinzinger. Guys like him and Sen Ben Sasse should be what exemplifies the Republican Party.

Unfortunately, being a conservative takes a backseat to being Trump loyalist…

I didn’t know Kinzinger was originally Tea Party. That makes the future US outlook more depressing— now he’s considered “too liberal” alongside…Liz Cheney? Feels like I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole lately.

Kinzinger declined to seek reelection.
And this is the smartest decision he ever made.

1. After betraying his voters, there is absolutely no chance he'd get reelected...much like Liz Cheney.

2. After helping the Dems on the House dog and pony show, he can sprint out the door before it slaps him on the backside.

3. He won't fade away. He'll find a lobbyist position or...if he's really desperate...a temporary job at MSNBC.

He's not the only Tea Party politician who got turned by the Republican Elites.

Reps. Kinzinger and Cheney aren't too Liberal for the Republican Party, they are too honest for the current Republican Party.

To them, the oath of office still means everything.

You’re right.

What that says about the current state of play is disturbing. It’s no longer just a difference of opinion over how to tackle a problem. It’s a cutthroat, winner-take-all, the “other side” is Satan reincarnated. Truth isn’t the point for them, it’s riling up the base and “winning.” It’s playing with fire.

Exactly the opposite of American, IMO.

His first mistake is thinking it's his party. The party represents the voters views not his. If he finds himself at odds with that than he does not belong in this party. His job is to represent the voters views not his own.

Nobody's job is to represent lies. And you're wrong. This isn't a direct democracy.

Not when the voters are idiots. Then it becomes his job to educate them.

Actually, his most important job is to look out for the best interest of his voters.

Which includes protecting the voters from themselves. Not an easy task, since virtually all Trumpsters are self-destructive, total ****ing idiots. Pretty much like all the traitors who fought for the Confederacy.

Thaddeus Stevens (played by Tommy Lee Jones) said it best in the movie Lincoln......."I've spent my entire career looking out for the best interests of my constituents, without caring much for any of them."

Mitt Romney was the Republican candidate for President less than 10 years ago.....that's how insane and scary the Republican Party has become.

I thought the party was supposed to represent conservative principles? He and Chenney both do, but the republican party isn't interested in conservative principles anymore.

"Dog and pony" show....with Trump's "best people" that he hired as the star witnesses!!

Why are Trump's "best people" that he hired testifying against him? You still won't touch that question with a 10 foot pole, I see.

Did I already mention that you ain't got shit?

Your logic is flawed by the simple fact that this short period of time, the post truth Trump era, for the Republican Party is not representative of the Party’s history and is antithetical to it’s foundational principles of respecting the sovereign right of it’s citizens to choose their leaders and for those leaders to be responsive and responsible to the people.

Trump, and those that support his fascist, by definition, goals have betrayed and abandoned the Party of Lincoln.

Kinzinger, Cheney, and other Republicans that stand against Trump are the real Republicans.

I've already answer this question...yet you keep asking.

And then what happens...

Yep. You are dismissed.

I guess I missed that.

Can you repeat it or direct me to the post your answer is in?

I'd like to hear your answer.

Shouldn't take the boys at the FBI long to track down the piece of human garbage who wrote this...

Given that it was addressed to his wife, and seeing those little circles on the exclamation points, it may've been written by a right-wing female terrorist.

Also, the likely right-wing terrorist may be left-handed.

Anyway, can't f***in' wait to see the mug shot for this terroristic piece of human filth... (y)
