For Crash and Burn, see Arizona.
For the need to transition, see this piece.
And, the reboot? Well, winning one like the "Gipper" would seem the logical direction.
However, I believe the "RINO" purge of the last decade and a half will make reboot impossible. Many of us Never Trumpers will never return to a party of crazy people. We have become "Never Republicans."
IMO, the Trumpers are the real RINO. But, it's their Party now. If they leave, then maybe the Party can be home for the sane again. However, I don't see that happening anytime soon, if at all. The crazy runs too deep.
But, instead of rebooting after the devastating defeats, they are doubling down on the stupid. The Trump era did more damage to the Republican Party in Arizona than almost anywhere else. Over the past two years, Republicans lost both Senate seats. In November, the state flipped Democratic in a presidential race for the first time since 1996. The GOP state party chair is currently at war with the governor.
Holy crap!President Donald Trump’s fingerprints are on all of it, yet the state party will likely pass a resolution next week to officially “support & thank” the president. It’ll also vote on measures to censor three prominent Republicans who were deemed insufficiently beholden to Trump: Gov. Doug Ducey, former Sen. Jeff Flake and Cindy McCain, the wife of the late senator.
Trump blows up the Arizona GOP on his way out
“The craziness from the state Republican Party … it’s pretty embarrassing,” said a former top Republican official.

Republicans Wonder How, And If, They Can Pull The Party Back Together
President Trump leaves fault lines in the GOP after the Capitol insurrection and his second impeachment, on top of the party having lost the White House, House and Senate on his watch.

Pushing away those who are supremely loyal to Trump would seem to be out of the question, since they represent such a big chunk of the party's base. But Reed thinks the party can address their concerns and convince them that in a democracy, it's possible for the Republican Party to lose a legitimate election.
....
Regardless of how, or whether, the Republican Party resolves its internal splits, the process will take time, says Frank Luntz: "You have a segment of American society that does not accept the election outcome and is going to continue to speak up, is going to continue to agitate. And that's going to make this a very unstable period for months and perhaps even years."

Opinion | A Reaganesque Scheme for a GOP Reboot
If the party is going to survive Trump, it needs to cut the extremists loose and craft a broader message. Here's how that succeeded before.

Can they go Reaganesque? Time will tell.To explain how the party can move forward, we have to back up and understand how Republicans got here, how the party of Lincoln has come to rely more on nationalistic and racist sloganeering to unify its members than on the limited government, free-market principles many Republicans have long believed are the party’s core ideals.
