I am far from a constitutional scholar but this guy mat have a very good case if obama tries to usurp the second amendment.
"Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman threatened Monday afternoon that he would file articles of impeachment against President Barack Obama if he institutes gun control measures with an executive order.
Stockman warned that such executive orders would be “unconstitutional” and “infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.”

The real issue isn't necessarily that he's doing something it's how he's doing it. The president under article 2 has no power to limit one of the bill of rights by executive order. Now congress doesn't have that power either but that ship sailed long ago. The president changing our rights through executive order opens a dangerous precedence for future presidents. What's to stop a president later on from limiting free speach or warrants through executive order? You have to think long term to what this power can be used for good and evil.I am far from a constitutional scholar but this guy mat have a very good case if obama tries to usurp the second amendment.

There is no Judicial Review of Impeachment. The Congress can impeach a President for any reason they want. The Senate holding the trial and the voters having elections are the only 2 checks on that. "high crimes and misdemeanors" is defined by the Congress itself not the Courts.
Surely there are other means of nullifying an overreaching executive order that don't involve an expensive and pointless "trial" via impeachment.

Where is this idea that the president wants to change the 2nd ammendment coming from? A ban on assault weapons has been done before and there are many more things that are being discussed. I think the NRA is spreading fear because there is money involved if weapons are banned.
When you start making the owning of a firearm so regulated that it becomes nearly unattainable you may run afoul of the second amendment, indeed you may be making it so onerous to purchase a gun that you effectively make the second amendment null and void.

As much as I would be happy to see Obama go, impeachment is only for treason, bribery, and high crimes. Doing something which may be unconstitutional should be countered with a civil lawsuit, congressional action, or protest.
Could you imagine the political chaos that would result from impeaching everybody you disagree with?

Sadly, that's now what impeachment has become. They let it out of the bag when they impeached Clinton over a blow job. It's just political posturing now.
Congress, the courts, the people, through using their powers.
ok. tell us what proposals have run afoul of the Constitution
i'll wait for your answer but refuse to hold my breath
He was impeached over the crime of perjury, not to mention sexual harassment of employees.

He was impeached over a very minor offense by Republicans intent on getting revenge for Nixon.
