Because it is the dumbest timeline there is reporting about Musk through Space X, Peter Thiel through Palantir and Schimpf through military drone maker Anduril ( who if you don't know this guy... hoo boy) are teaming up as the worst version of the Avengers and are going for the contract for the very very stupid expensive boondoggle Golden Dome System.

To make it even dumber there is reporting that they want to make it a subscription service in that the US Government pays for access to the Golden Dome instead of owning it out right

In an unusual twist, SpaceX has proposed setting up its role in Golden Dome as a "subscription service" in which the government would pay for access to the technology, rather than own the system outright.
The subscription model, which has not been previously reported, could skirt some Pentagon procurement protocols allowing the system to be rolled out faster, the two sources said. While the approach would not violate any rules, the government may then be locked into a subscription and lose control over its ongoing development and pricing, they added.

Some Pentagon officials have expressed concerns internally about relying on the subscription-based model for any part of the Golden Dome, two sources told Reuters. Such an arrangement would be unusual for such a large and critical defense program.
U.S. Space Force General Michael Guetlein has been in talks on whether SpaceX should be the owner and operator of its part of the system, the two sources said. Other options include having the U.S. own and operate the system, or having the U.S. own it while contractors handle operations. Guetlein did not respond to a request for comment.

I keep saying it

Behind every Anti Government Libertarian Billionaire is an enormous government contract.

And a side note... what is it with these weirdos and naming all of their companies after Lord of the Rings?

Mush wants one of his companies involved in the Golden Dome?

No conflict of interest there

Good. That way, when it doesn't work, the Pentagon can cancel the contract, and stick them with the cost of the system. Just like how DOGE canceled a bunch of government contracts. It will be an actual case of reducing fraud and waste... for a change.

Americans should ask, how do the billionaire oligarchs feel about the idea of "the people" ruling, and having the power to dictate rules, place limits, require things to serve the public interest rather than just their wealth, the power to tax them?

The answer should help people realize why those billionaire oligarchs are at war with the idea of democracy. Why, as I've quoted Brandeis, 'Society can have great concentration of wealth, or it can have democracy, but it can't have both'.

'The Pentagon' is controlled by trump minions appointed by him, like Hegseth and the new JCS Chairman. trump is serving the billionaire oligarchs, who got him elected and give him hundreds of millions. So... problem with your plan. When 'it doesn't work', no problem.
