Rudy Giuliani is joining President Donald Trump's personal legal team, Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow announced Thursday.
In an interview with CNN, Giuliani said he wants to make clear that his role on the legal team will be "limited."
Giuliani told CNN his focus will be on interfacing with special counsel Robert Mueller in his Russia probe and to help bring everything to a conclusion, saying it "needs a little push."
Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including any potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion.Giuliani, who spoke to CNN on the phone soon after news broke about his role, was careful to praise Trump's current legal team, but he said that sometimes it helps to bring on a fresh perspective.
Giuliani also noted that he has known Mueller for a long time. They worked together in the Justice Department as well as when Mueller was FBI director and Giuliani was New York's mayor.

Giuliani pushed back on the idea that Trump ever had any intention of firing Mueller. He said the President never gave him any indication he was considering such a move because he knows it would be "counterproductive." Dismissing Mueller would mean the investigation would take longer, Giuliani said, adding that "Bob is the best we can do" and saying he is fair.

Rudy was a big Trump supporter, as I recall. This will work well for Trump, except I can't imagine how long it's been since Rudy has actually participated in legal cases.

I would think it's been a long while since he's been involved in a case like this (from the other side). IMO, Rudy is a grand stander. I don't see how he won't put his foot in his mouth with Trump. Either because his public profile becomes greater than Trump's or Rudy, and the comment you quoted is a good example, says something Trump will dislike or view as being disloyal.

I would like to know how he knew about the contents of Comey's letter two days before it was released.
Rudy in my opinion is suspect.
He supposedly has connections with the FBI branch division in New York, the same branch involved with the leaking of anti-Comey, anti-clinton messages days before the 2016 election.
My first thought as well when my I was told this a few hours ago. Joining purely for his connections. Push the right buttons, grease the right palms, suddenly legal woes aren't so scary...sort of thing.

I'm not so sure that Mueller has decided he doesn't want to interview Trump just yet. It seems hard to believe that the central subject of the obstruction of justice probe, would not have to give an interview at some point, or that the probe would be complete without one.That reads like a Linkedin profile than an active legal firm's website. Overall, this looks to be a very good day for the WH, and this also includes the breaking news this afternoon where Rod Rosenstein informed the president that he is not a subject/target of the Michael Cohen probe.
