Getting a 5000 character warning every time I try to post

I've been trying all day to reply to a post in Red's good morning thread, and I keep getting the error that I've gone over 5000 characters, and I'm not even close. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yup, with Lou's. When it happens I go into his post and delete a few paragraphs.

Thanks Mary! I even tried responding in his last post that was short, and got the same error. Must be a glitch...NO PUN intended....I didn't know I could delete some of his post! :ROFLMAO: Duh, stupid me! Makes perfect sense...

Quoting a big post takes up a lot of characters. The counter isn't perfect, but the quoting of another post takes up a lot more characters than it should.

Thanks, I get it now. The thing that was weird was when I tried to respond to a much later post in the day and still got the same 5000 character block, almost like it was tied to the first error. No biggie.
 
glad this was mentioned. when it happens i just take the post im replying to and answer about 1/2 and then duplicate the procedure. so it takes me 2 posts for a full reply

OK get it..! Thanks (y) took a sec to figure out that the post WITH responses counted at 5K characters...!
