Post WWII German Chancellors have tended to be rather circumspect on foreign policy matters, it will seem to me. But then the only time I ever paid attention to German Chancellors is with Scholz and the Ukraine War; so I may not know what I am talking about. But I cannot recall any Chancellor before talk like that
 
Merz should not say a thing if he doesn't have anything constructive to say. I hope this leads to negative conequences for him. I doubt most Germans takes that well.
