Big, big news, and a huge coup for Democrats.
Ossoff was (and is) a favorite against everyone but Kemp. Kemp is a popular two-term governor who has managed what has eluded virtually every other Republican in the country: not being labeled “Never Trump” or anti-Trump and yet defying Trump at a critical moment.

“I spoke with President Trump and Senate leadership earlier today and expressed my commitment to work alongside them to ensure we have a strong Republican nominee who can win next November, and ultimately be a conservative voice in the US Senate who will put hardworking Georgians first,” Kemp said in a statement.
Josh Marshall: "Kemp is a popular two-term governor who has managed what has eluded virtually every other Republican in the country: not being labeled “Never Trump” or anti-Trump and yet defying Trump at a critical moment.
...Kemp recognizes the political power of that needle-threading and wants to keep it intact to run for President in 2028 or possibly even 2032."

Makes sense. Kemp is no dummy.

Plus, Sununu is declining to run in NH.
Both he and Kemp are true Republican conservatives. They have no interest in kissing the ring and contributing to tye destruction of democracy in the US. However, cannot give them to much credit because they won't speak up.

Our Governor Youngkin (VA) has also played a smart game, accepting Traitor Trump’s support, but keeping him at arms length and not pushing a MAGAt agenda.

Kemp has indeed been an excellent governor. He would have made a good senator. It was but a few months ago Chris Sununu, the very popular ex-governor of New Hampshire also declined to run for New Hampshire’s senate seat. What do they have in common, at one time or another, both have defied Trump. Trump did a lot of trashing of Kemp when he refused to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. Both in my opinion would be shoe ins to win a senate seat. Neither can be classified as Trumpers. My guess is that the GOP will nominate Marjorie Taylor Greene, a MAGA Trumper which will lose to Ossoff in November 2026. Being MAGA means a primary win, but not a general election win. A list of Trump chosen candidates who lost, Masters, Walker, Diehl, Cox, Laxalt, Oz, Bolduc, Tshibaka, Palin, Lake, Schmidt, Dixon, Mastriano plus some I can’t remember

Excellent news. And this after Trump personally lobbied him to run. Which makes this news even tastier.

I posted above that both of these men might sense which way the wind's blowing.

Within the Republican Party for sure. Neither probably could get the GOP nomination, not MAGA or Trumper enough. Both could have easily won the general election. The GOP has it litmus test regarding Trump. They'd rather nominate a sure loser 100% pure MAGA, Trumper in the general election than nominate nominate a winner in the general election that isn't all avid Trump. This will lead to a bad midterm in losing general elections that they should have won.

I won't even call Trumpery an ideology because it's not. The 7 time party switcher had adopted the political ideology of the party he belonged to at the time. He's never had a political ideology of his own, the man's devoid of his own political philosophy. But that is the GOP's choice.

Good I hope she does…She will be out of the House and will lose the Senate election by a lot
You have more faith in the intelligence of the American voter than I do, but I sure hope you're right.

The majority of Georgians aren't going to vote for Marjorie Taylor Greene. I live very close to her district and she is only liked in her district....everyone else hates her.

He is holding out for a run at that presidency

Yup.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Comes Last in Georgia Senate Poll

“A new poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, conducted between April 15 and April 24 among 1,000 registered Georgia voters, found that voters preferred Ossoff over Greene by a 17-point margin—the largest gap in the survey—in a hypothetical race, with the Democrat getting 54 percent of the vote compared to 37 percent for the congresswoman.

The result was largely driven by Greene's unpopularity with independents, 60 percent of whom said they would back Ossoff in a matchup, and moderate Republicans, with nearly 10 percent of Trump voters saying they would also back the incumbent.”

Greene will never ascend beyond her shitty MAGAt district.
